Re: Food Grade Protectant for Tool Steels

I like using Frog Lube. It's not magic - doesn't seem to last all that long. Helps some.

Also, in my (online) research, many believe it is predominantly Coconut Oil. I am going to switch over as that is definitely food safe.

Re: Advice regarding disassembly and recommended Torx drivers

Yes my preferred method is a soldering iron on the screw for a minute or so. On really stubborn ones, I will alternate back and forth to the screws on each side and keep testing/trying. Red loctite documents that 500F frees it. I run soldering iron at 800F I have done this for 5 minutes at a time a...

Re: Advice regarding disassembly and recommended Torx drivers

I wouldn't say don't do it, just know your abilities and know yourself. As Sal says, they aren't Legos. They also aren't as complex as combustion engines nor bicycles. The AWT Manix liner delete scales look cool and are tempting. One unsolicited tip. If i encounter a stuck screw and suspect loctite...

Can anyone give me a rough idea of how much a factory second costs? For example a m4 Manix 2 XL? Doesn’t have to be precise but can someone give me a range of what a Factory 2nd costs?
Probably around $90-$100. Estimate on my part and others may know exact.

Re: CPM 15v Manix 2

Knives Ship Free had some, very briefly. I had one in my cart but the knife went OOS again, by the time I entered payment info and tried to check out. This sure is “fun”. Yea same here. I got the email. IMMEDIATELY went as fast as possible and it was sold out. The vendor emails are slow. If you are...

The far more likely event is debris, fail to open all the way or, disengaging the lock do to hand positioning..... The question is what happens then? I choose folders with built in hand protection. What kind of protection? Like a choil? Or ricasso like Endura series Rock Jumper has a hidden one tha...

Re: Safety of IWB compression lock at 12:00 while running?

As others have said, it depends on the detent. I have a couple PM2s that when compared are at opposite ends of the spectrum. One I have no doubt would stay closed IWB. It’s got the heaviest detent of all my Spydercos. The other is very weak. I can easily shake it open. I would never trust it that wa...

Re: Strongest Known Blade Lock for Spyderco Knives?

I'm betting any lock Spyderco makes can be made stronger than the pivot and stop screws and they would be the failure point before the lock failed, and/or the blade itself breaks first. Over the years I've seen several broken blades but I don't recall many broken locks. I agree with this. There is ...

Re: What Is In Bar Keepers Friend?

Oxalic acid. It's a chelating agent, it reacts with iron which makes it very effective for cleaning rust and steel off ceramic and porcelain. You should avoid prolonged skin contact and I'd advise against snorting it. I can't tell you first hand that YAB isn't kidding you about wearing protective g...

Re: Info For Sal and Eric

No offense, but knife production is hardly critical infrastructure. Causing damage to Spydercos CNCs sucks, but is unlikely to lead to human harm.

Rail, power, dams, etc is what keeps me up at night.
