Re: Swick Thoughts (with pics)
Sal, That's awesome! What and where do you/have you sailed? I own a sloop myself these days and spent most of my professional career in square-rig, but I started on a 130' wooden schooner that needed the rig put back up after shipyard. We did a LOT of seizings and a Swick sure would have been handy ...

Re: Swick Thoughts (with pics)
I wrote a few days ago in the "what's on the way" thread: Swick 5. I wasn't terribly interested in it until I read in the latest Byte about how Fred Perrin developed the finger hole while he was doing scaffolding and rigging work, so he could tie knots and such without putting the knife do...

Swick 5. I wasn't terribly interested in it until I read in the latest Byte about how Fred Perrin developed the finger hole while he was doing scaffolding and rigging work, so he could tie knots and such without putting the knife down. It sounds like it could be brilliant and I'm excited to try it ...

Re: Going clip-less commando
The first bosun I worked for years ago had a very specific formula for carrying a knife clipless - it had to have a lanyard twice the length of the knife with an eye splice in the end. That way no matter how the knife settled the eye on the lanyard was always near the top of the pocket and easy to g...

Re: What types of material do you cut the most?
Rope varying from tiny to 4-5 inches, depending on where I'm working and what I'm doing. Food prep and small rope when I'm at home, along with some woodwork and fishing and such. About 10% is random stuff like zip ties, packaging, etc. Don't tell anyone but I actually use scissors for a lot of stuff...

Re: Aqua Salt with other steels? Would you be interested?
I'll add another voice in favor of keeping the Aqua Salt around if it can be done. It was my first Spyderco, and at the time I thought it might be the last knife I ever bought. I didn't think that for very long, of course, but that's the only time I've ever thought that strongly about a knife. If th...

Re: The Carry Conundrum
I almost always walk out the door with my Pac Salt, but I just picked up a ladybug-flavored Endura from DLT and a Rockjumper and there is stiff competition among those three now. A Street Beat and SAK usually live in my bag if I'm carrying one. Before I found Spyderco I just carried a Mora and SAK i...

In the absence of any of the salt steels, a coated VG-10 blade would be wonderful. I'd prefer toothless.

Re: Coffee Pour Over Devices?
I use either: -A stainless mesh pour-over filter that needs no paper filters -An AeroPress The AeroPress is my usual method and makes great espresso-like coffee if you're into that. It seems excessively complicated at first but it really isn't once you've done it a few times. As several other folks ...

Re: Future and (perhaps improvable?) marketing of the "handle forward design"
Another input from me as a climber, mountaineer and I guess "outdoor guy". Perhaps with a Rock Jumper 2 (two) really follow through on that "outdoor / climbing knife" concept (so IF perhaps perceived as a "specialized product" anyway give it as much features for that s...

Re: Pacific Salt talk
On the Endura - that's sort of what I was getting at - it's all kind of a wash, and I'm thinking it would be better to pass on the Endura for now. The added heft/sturdy feel of the liners would be nice occasionally, but it's just different from the lightness of the Pacific Salt - different, but not...
