Re: Stable edge steels (NOT TOUGHNESS)
A viewer of mine watched a recent video and suggested I post it to this thread. The testing is admittedly on the imprecise side of things, as it is impossible to eliminate bias caused by geometry, heat-treatment, and hand movements - but I found the results interesting in terms of stable edge capab...

Re: Stable edge steels (NOT TOUGHNESS)
Thanks you everyone. I got some really good info from you all. Greatly appreciated. Also got me considering some steels like LC200N which I had been kind of ignoring.

Re: Stable edge steels (NOT TOUGHNESS)
OK let me put it another way. Assuming it’s a folding knife from Spyderco - 🙈 1. What knife/steel from Spyderco would you sharpen to a 10 - 15 DPS or maybe as high as 17.5 DPS for medium/EDC use or lighter? I’m especially looking for info on medium/EDC uses and Spyderco knife/steel you would run at ...

Re: Stable edge steels (NOT TOUGHNESS)
So I know this is an old thread but it still seems it has not been totally answered. I don’t know all the knife makers that would know best but I’m hoping to revive this in order to learn more. I thought I understood this subject but soon learned that edge retention/hardness didn’t dictate better e...

Re: Stok
The pictures don’t do the Stok knife justice. I checked one out when I dropped by Blade HQ and they looked pretty nice. Didn’t get one because of the steel type. Ended up finding a fixed blade in CPM-10V and got that.

If you have the chaparral Birdseye maple that would be perfect for this.

Re: What did you use your Spyderco for last?
My Native removed the old cob and installed a new new one on the squirrel feeder. Yesterday, it stripped some bark and cut cordage used during transplanting the mulberry tree pictured in the bottom right. Also opened a bottle last night 👍. https://i.imgur.com/uDeUksj.jpg Nice. Looks like your multi...

That’s cool! Did you make the clip? Looks like it’s made from another Spyderco blade?

Re: Get me excited about M398
Anyone have a link to a good comprehensive carbide volume chart? Would love that info and thanks @VeraX_Knives for helping me think outside of just edge retention and toughness.

Re: Get me excited about M398
Ok this is a simple question that I’m hoping you can all clarify for me. I don’t have all the fancy equipment and knowledge you all have. I also have one of the worst cases of psoriatic arthritis that my doctors have ever seen so I can’t do the repetitive cut testing. But I do try. The thing that h...

Re: Get me excited about M398
M398 doubled my Aeb-l test cut numbers. Makes perfect sense to me seeing those results with feathersticks. I define toughness as the steels ability to absorb impact, and it's effect on edge retention. I lock my wrist when feathersticking, so I will assume your not twisting or hitting rocks. Lock my...

Re: 52100 Native Chief?
I would far and away rather have 14C28N than 52100. Same toughness, better edge retention, and it is stainless. Umm 🤔 both please 🙏 Been want a quality heat treated 14C28N Spyderco knife for a long time. I also had no clue Spyderco made a knife with 52100 steel. I’ve kind of fallen in love with kni...

Re: Spyderco 50th Anniversary Knife?
Would love a new Eric and Sal collaboration. Something maybe that signified the changing of the guard? Or how about an Eric, Sal and Kolby collaboration (Eric’s kid, met him when I visited Spyderco, he’s great at customer sales/service already)? At least I think it was Eric’s kid. Hope I got the kid...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal
Does anyone have a good source for an after market Sharp Maker base with different angles? I have 2 Sharpmakers and all of the stones offered by Spyderco already. Hopefully a tighter fit so the stones don’t move around in the base. For example 15 and 17 would be useful for me as I don’t use the 20....

It’s Monday yay ! This one was inspired by all you that post a Manix every Monday. Wouldn’t have bought one if it wasn’t for you all and I’m glad I got it. It truly is a great knife design.
