Yes we DO actually need to Magnacut ALL the knives.

Re: Sage 5 in REX 121 + burnt orange

Anyone have any idea how REX121 will compare to Maxamet in real world use? Will 121 just be a bit more chippy with a bit more edge retention or is there something else to be expected? Maxamet but more maxamety. To paraphrase Daft Punk: Harder, better, chippier, edgier. https://i.imgur.com/bFcQU5D.p...

Re: Stable edge steels (NOT TOUGHNESS)

I’ve seen that chart before but with you pointing it out and his video showing similar results I get it even more. Now that I think about it, this chart from Larrin is more appropriate since "edge retention" doesn't matter for this particular discussion. You can see that NitroV and Magnac...

Re: Stable edge steels (NOT TOUGHNESS)

A viewer of mine watched a recent video and suggested I post it to this thread. The testing is admittedly on the imprecise side of things, as it is impossible to eliminate bias caused by geometry, heat-treatment, and hand movements - but I found the results interesting in terms of stable edge capab...

Thanks you everyone. I got some really good info from you all. Greatly appreciated. Also got me considering some steels like LC200N which I had been kind of ignoring.
FYI, LC200N is run pretty soft. Yes, it's tough but it will roll if not used properly.

Re: I love this knife, but wish for Nishijin or kirinite

The closest you will get is a Nishijin Dragonfly. They are a bit rare though.

1. What knife/steel from Spyderco would you sharpen to a 10 - 15 DPS or maybe as high as 17.5 DPS for medium/EDC use or lighter?
Cru-Wear, Magnacut, 4V, or M4. They have high toughness at high hardness, which makes for a stable edge.

Re: Stable edge steels (NOT TOUGHNESS)

Larrin 's recent analysis of 1V is highly relevant to this thread. He showed it has an extremely fine carbide structure, with an unusual combination of high toughness and hardness. So 1V is likely the best steel for edge stability. https://knifesteelnerds.com/2024/03/11/matrix-steels-k888-and-cpm-1...

I really like the lighter engraving, it compliments the handle I chose perfectly.

Re: Upcoming P.I.T.S. 2

The original PITS is one of my favorite Spyderco knives. The new one doesn't do much for me aesthetically, but it's still interesting.

Re: The Edge Is A Ghost?

What you are missing is the act of dividing '1' into infinite parts can continue forever. It can, but it doesn't have to. And dividing up a minute cannot continue "forever" by definition. You mean you can divide up the minute infinitely, which doesn't somehow magically make the parts sum ...

Re: The Edge Is A Ghost?

But no matter the constant nature of the sum of the total parts, you can stay in the process of incremental division FOREVER. Welcome to the paradox. Forever is a statement of time. The infinite division will be done after 100s, not forever. You're again confusing amount of actions with time, and c...

Re: The Edge Is A Ghost?

Here's a more interesting problem: You have a closed PM2 in your hand. After 1/2 a minute you flick it open. 1/4 a minute later you close it. 1/8 a minute after that you flick it open. You repeat this process until 1 minute total has passed. At that time will the knife be open or closed?

Re: The Edge Is A Ghost?

I don't think you've shown finite time. I gave you a mathematical proof. Can you explain what part of it is wrong? You're taking the thousand foot view of it and seeing the whole as finite. No, I calculated it from the bottom up. As I keep saying the paradox lies in the process of dividing. Which c...

Re: The Edge Is A Ghost?

Where does this end ? '...' What do you mean by "end?" It doesn't have a final term, if that's what you mean. It's an infinite sum. And if you reduce the time to complete the next step by a fraction (or another way to say it would be to increase the speed to complete the next step), don't...
