Re: Native Scout?
I've been trying not bring it up out of respect for Sal, but you've forced my hand. Within a week of receiving my Native Chief and realizing that it was a little too big, I purchased a Cold Steel American Lawman. It's as close as I can get to the proposed Native Scout. I carried it for a week befor...

WE could always buy a Native chief and do this, too : https://messerforum.net/threads/spyderco-native-custom-special-wip.145705/ Ding ding ding! We have a winner!!! :party-face Unfortunately though, it’s just easier for people on here to tell Spyderco to invest resources into creating the knife the...

Re: Calypso Jr Sprint Run Considerations
I can't help but feel that the LC200N salt version is very appropriate for a knife with fish scales. Great idea. I wish I'd never sold the VG-10 and black Micarta Calypso Jr. I once owned. I'll buy any stainless steel blade Calypso Jr. Spyderco wants to make if I can snag one before the sprint sell...

Re: Native Scout?
I don’t see a problem with people recommending a design they would like to see spyderco produce. It shouldn’t matter if it could be achieved by custom work. A lot of people aren’t going to do that. I agree with nicks point about it feeling like a pretty redundant design to be financially viable.. B...

Re: Native Scout?
You're conflating blade shape with blade and overall length. The wharnies were discontinued across all sizes of the Seki back locks. The Endela, the half-inch increment of the Seki lineup, remains in the catalog. I disagree, I don’t believe I’m conflating anything. I was providing a real world exam...

All we have to do to prove my point about redundancy is take a look at all the wharncliffes on last years discontinued list. You're conflating blade shape with blade and overall length. Re: Is this the knife everyone clamors for?
Is this the knife everyone really wants? Here me out. People decried it because it had such a thick blade and other complaints. However, when one looks at the specs, it has the same blade thickness, and close to the same specs as other well loved knives and none of their detriments . Not quite. The...

So, for the sake of conversation, on the frn version, whaddayouwant? Colors, Steels or specific combinations? sal Spyderco box red scales, one of the M390 triplets or S90V. If you wanted to do black liners, hardware, clip, and blade to complete the Spyderco colors theme this Georgia Dawg would be e...

Re: Native Scout?
Following vivi's line of reasoning, Spyderco should not have developed the Endela, but instead suggested to people to grind down the Endura. I for one am glad that the Endela exists. I still have one solitary Endura from the 1990s. I never bought another as I found it too long. But now I have a bun...

Re: Native Scout?
I would still question if there is room in the catalog for a fourth size of Native iteration at the moment? How about a fifth size? …sixth? Why stop there? A fourth and fifth size iteration could probably be added to the Military series, Delica series, and Yojimbo series and they would fit right in...

Re: Chaparral
Hi Warstein, Regarding the future of models, my crystal ball needs glasses. The success of a model, to keep it in the line, is a matter of demand. There are a few exceptions made for law enforcement, but in general, if the market does not want it enough to support the inventory, then it has to go. ...

Re: Your favorite exclusives
MGE Tiffany blue S90V Native 5 Lightweight. I like the MGE Tiffany blue in general though. Great color that makes the knife look less scary to non-knife people, and it just looks like spring. An MGE blue Native 5 lightweight would be an amazing little Easter egg knife next year.

Re: Native Scout?
In folding knives half inch increments in blade length are significant. Some legal jurisdictions think so, but IME handle size matters a lot more. I can’t think of any task I use a 4” folder for that a 2.5” folder won’t do. For me it goes Chaparral, Manix 2 or Police, then machete. So, 2.8" bl...

Re: Native Scout?
Next to the Native 5, the Manix 2 is my favorite platform, though I wish it was less of a pocket hog. So yeah, I'd be in for a 3.5 inch Native. native5_manix2_nativechief_01.jpg Honestly when I look at that picture I wonder why people don't just buy a Native Chief and grind the blade down a bit if ...

Re: Native Scout?
A few minutes with a file will solve this. Doesn't solve shortening the handle. Threaded inserts are not more secure than threaded holes in steel liners. Any real force against those threads will bend the clip. Every Spyderco I own or have owned with clip screws that mount to the liners is not as s...

Native Scout?
Background: I own five Native 5's. I recently picked up a brown G10 / M390 Native Chief because I was wanting something a bit longer. The Chief is great, but it's a bit too long, and by not adding height to scales and blade the proportions are thrown off. I strongly prefer the bias toward closure of...
