Re: What "others" are in the mail?
Cold Steel SRK on the way thanks to vivi posting in the "other" deals thread. good choice. I've got a bunch or I would have picked up another too. I've got an XL Voyager, Black Bear machete and Frenzy on the way. The Frenzy always caught my eye and I couldn't pass up $64. I don't even see...

Re: XL knives to look forward to
^ another option is a lightweight folding saw . Gerber, Fiskars, Hunting Made Easy.....these are copied by many different brands and can readily be bought for $5-10. It'll be faster than hacking at small treees with a small or medium fixed blade, and doesn't have anywhere close to the weight penalty...

https://idahoners.com/products/7-triangular-grey-coarse-grit-replacement-rod?variant=33632238502026 has anyone tried these? they look like they could be nice for applying quick toothy edges. Hey vivi, I bought a coarse (100-200 grit) and medium (500-ish grit) one last Sunday when I got home from my...

Re: What does “ergonomic” mean to you?
Many have discussed ergonomics in the sense of the grip and position differences. I understand and appreciate the variety of ways we can use the great variety of knives created by Spyderco. There was also mention of the choil, specifically the post above by Brock O Lee. Use of a choil as part of th...

Re: Why don't you Baton?
Batoning is good to know about as yet another technique to file away in your bag of tricks. And for sure, doing it with care using a mule is entirely reasonable. Done with pieces of wood that don't require twisting or prying action to make the split would seem like good guidelines. Another thought ...

Re: Why don't you Baton?
I have built countless fires and never done any batoning. Part of this is a workman's sense of knowing the limits of his tools and getting the job done without abusing them. So if you never baton how are you so confident whether it is or isn't within the tools capability? I think is is common sense...

Re: Crazy Deals that are Non Spyderco
cold steels were already on sale the past few days at midway usa - now on top of that they're 25% off. some insane deals, like a recon 1 in s35vn for $76, before the 25% off - https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1019947057?pid=680955 I might try out a Frenzy at these prices! Thanks for the tip, vivi!...

Re: Hitachi White Steel
Would love to see and test a knife in Hitachi White Steel in a Mule. Have recent received a friction folder with a nice thick Hitachi White #1 blade and it’s a beast of a slicer that holds a nice edge for a great length. https://files.catbox.moe/eimoy9.jpeg Have a few chef knives half the thickness...

Put a fresh edge and a fresh lanyard on my favorite little fixed blade. I’d really like a 4” version.

Re: What does “ergonomic” mean to you?
Index finger as close as safely and comfortably possible to the heel of the blade , especially on handle forward designs. This is generally not an issue with a finger-choiled knife since it’s easy to choke up. You might argue this isn’t an “ergo” issue but I think it is, because it affects grip. Ex...

Re: What does “ergonomic” mean to you?
When I grip the handle, it feels like it conforms to my hand instead of my hand conforming to it. Some knives felt great in my grip from the first time I held them. C95 Manix and the Militsry are two examples. Some knives I had to learn to like the handle. Cold Steel SR1, Spyderco Endura 4 and the Y...

Working on my camp site. Wanted to compare my reprofiled SRKC to my stock Street Beat to get an idea of how thin I should take the SB's edge when I reprofile it.
