How do you measure quality?

I posted this question on BladeForums "knife test" section a while ago. Got some interesting response and some surprizing response. I didn't feel it proper to pursue the issue on Bladeforums because it is a shared site with other makers and I felt if there was "heat", it should b...

The SS & CF dragonfly has a "screw on" clip. The plstic one would have to have the clip ground off.

Even if we began today, there would not be anything available for 4 -5 months. Patience will be required.

Hit me up again in December. I'll let you know the how.

Scott - No, we don't make autos or semi-autos. We still believe they are illegal (regardless of the arguments). We also found they are difficult to control. With a
Spyderco opening hole, one can control the blade. Stop the opening and reclose. Open at different speeds, etc.

Onehand - I'll see if I can dig some up. sorry 'bout the email. I have a stack waiting for my attention. I've been travelling and I'm travelling quite a bit for the next month or so, so email probably won't happen other than critical stuff.

Send Olive your mailing address via email.

Hi Onehandclapping. We stopped printing the older small booklet. We've just replaced it with an accordian fold out brochure.

If I'm not mistaken, the Civilian wasn't shown in the small ELU catalogs.

Hi Bladezealot - My apologies for underestimating your experience. There are makers that stamp 440 on their blades. They are using "A" but implying "C". Many forumites (me included) are sensitive to this deception. When you just listed 440, I assumed (wrongly) that you didn't kno...

Hi Ishay. Chamois are great for exactly what you are doing with them.

Regarding the boxes; are you referring to the blue & white "slider" boxes?

RLR. Spyderco is always making minor changes and improvements to our models. One of the current changes is to end the serration with a large serration at the tip. Another is leaving a little more plain edge at the tip to add strength. The differences could be where in the "evolution" you p...

Hi John. If it's the "hamaguri" grind, only a buffer will really work. If it's the satin finish flat grind, use the sharpmaker as normal.

Hi Bladezealot. Welcome to the Spyderco forum. There is no 440 steel. There is 440A, 440B & 440C. They range in carbon content from .6 (440A) to 1.00+ (440C). We only use 440C and we use it in the SpydeRench because we wanted a hi carbon steel with excellent corrosion resistance. Many will use t...

Hi Automaticman. Perhaps un-informed, certainly not stupid. Spyderco makes most (75%) of our knives in Seki City, Japan with several selected makers that we have been working with for many years. The balance are made in our Golden, Colorado facility. In the past, we have made knives in Switzerland a...

Hi Max. The Lum tanto is a limited production run. We probably average making about 100-150 pcs per month. There have been some minor changes over the time we've been making them. The additional clip holes have been recently added. The finish has been changed twice. It's Still a problem. Actually, y...
