Re: A rusted treasure
Great! I enjoyed that. Thanks!
That knife cleaned up really well. I wonder what steel is in that knife?

Re: A rusted treasure
Probably a simple high carbon, like Hitachi White paper or Takefu V, laminated to a low carbon body. It's possible that it would be Blue steel, but more Nakiris are low alloy, since they are intended to cut only vegetables.
I'd also vote White 2 or V2 because the edge steel seemed more pitted than the body steel, on my Blue steel kitchen knives that equation reverses, with the body getting discolored before the edge when cutting veggies.

I went to the guy's orihinal YT. He researched and found it to be shirogami.

This is ver popular recently, there're two threads over BF about it. The look on the cat is priceless, like 'whoa' :D

Here's the knife. Around 100$ alright:For those of you asking about what knife this is, I got curious as well and looked for the same knife and I finally found it online: http://www.komeri.com/disp/CKmSfGoodsPa ... .jsp?GOODS_
NO=959959
It is 180mm Shirogami Steel usuba knife by Seki Magoroku. Shirogami steel is "white paper" steel which is very pure carbon steel. It sells for a little over $100.
The inscriptions are 関孫六 (Seki Magoroku) and 白鋼 (White Steel).
