Small Fixed Blades

Post by vivi »

What are your favorite small fixed blades? Say, 4.5" blades and shorter?

I like EDCing a small carbon steel fixed blades, and often bring them camping and hiking. Here's a few of mine:

Landi PSK with black micarta.

ESEE Izula 2.

Shadow Tech Hiker.

Swick 3.

Landi EDC with two tone G10.

I've got plenty more where that came from! What have you got?

I like my Gerber Gator fixed blade. Nice small size, I like the blade shape, and that Kraton handle gives about the most secure grip I've ever experienced. The sheath is a little meh but overall it's a nice package. I bought mine new on eBay for about $24.

The steel (420 HC) is super easy to sharpen.

That Dervish Tribe Wharncliffe Silverfish is pretty neat!

Here's what the Izula looks like after stripping the blade, giving the edge a thinner angle and letting some patina build up:

Here's the PSK with a patina and better edge:

That Bradford looks like it has a longer blade than the ones I've seen.

Got a new one today. L T Wright frontier valley in black micarta and O1:

Already started a patina by cutting up an apple.

I like that, like a classic Mora with much better fit and finish. Which steel?

I have a scandi Landi bushcrafter that's just big enough to be considered medium sized, but haven't used it much. I've been enjoying the smaller knives later.

It's O1 tool steel.

"Lagom" is Swedish for "just right." I agree. It's just right in everyway...at least for me it is.

I like a basic Izula II. It is small, rugged, and practical. It is not the best at one thing, but is good all around and is a knife I would want if I had to survive somewhere. I have other small fixed blades but none I prefer to this one. I do have a very old Buck 102 Woodsman that I like. It is small, with a 4" blade. The handle is a bit small, otherwise I would choose this one.

I agree. As you can see I have a lot of nicer fixed blades, but none see the carry time of my Izula 2.

Yep, those Alabama boys make a solid knife.
