Linerless Delica 5 concept model from 2013 ?! (EDIT: Perhaps the Native was meant back then)
Linerless Delica 5 concept model from 2013 ?! (EDIT: Perhaps the Native was meant back then)
Just happened to come across a quote by Sal on blade forums from May 2013:
"The Lt Wt Delica 5 "concept model" shown in A'dam was linerless. Eric will add bits of steel reinforcement where necessary, but overall the model is quite light and stronger than the current model"
(Here is the link https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/mr- ... n.1050443/ to the thread, scroll down to post nr. 12)
Edit: As Jazz points out later in this thread: Sal probably meant the Native, not the Delica
Again, this was 2013 already. Found that quite interesting and wonder what might have happened to this "Delica 5 concept model".. and if it was planned to come out in FRN or FRCP. Anyway, seems like they thought of going back to linerless with the Delica (as far as I know the Delica 4 is the first iteration that HAS liners)
Also, the Salt 2 already IS kind of a linerless Delica "superlighweight", and the current (linered) Delica 4 already a bit lighter than even the linerless Para 3 LW for example.

I think he meant Native, like further back in the thread.
- best wishes, Jazz.

I don't want to see the Delica change at all. It's perfect in my opinion, and I certainly don't want to see it change to linerless FRN. I agree with the above poster that it was likely a mis-type, but I just wanted to throw my opinion out there.

I think you´re right, Sal probably just misspoke in that one quote and "my" thread is rather pointless by that... :o

Re: Linerless Delica 5 concept model from 2013 ?!
I am totally with you: The Delica is perfect as it is, and very light anyway, despite having liners (again: Still LIGHTER than both the linerless Native 5 LW or Para 3 LW - probably another plus of the rather thin Delica bladestock that makes so much sense anyway especially on a small folder)

Aww man..you got my hopes up there for a moment.
I like the current gen of Delica and Endura, and I understand why the changes were made, but I think the Salt 2 series is evidence you don't absolutely need liners, at least in a knife that size.
I'll just keep bugging Sal until it happens, or just in case the Spydercrew stumbles across a stash of Delica 3's in a closet.

The FFG LC200N Salt 2 is going to be the linerless Delica 5.

I'd be down for that, especially if it comes with a serrated edge.
