Any Becker Ka-Bar fans in here?

#1

Post by RevMike »

As much as I love my Spyderco knives sometimes you just need a sharpened chunk of bar stock with a handle bolted on. Anybody else have any of these niche blades?

Here are the thickest and thinnest BK&K blades I have with a PM2 in between for comparison.

Let's see what you've got.

I have a BK14. Sadly I don't carry it much because I have too many options. I did buy it over the Izula 1/2 because it has more edge length and a much thinner blade grind/behind the edge and the coating was smoother and seemed to be better quality. I think the sheath is better too.

I have two, the BK9 from KaBar and a camp knife from back when Beckers were made by Camillus.

I don’t have any at the moment but gifted a friend who is big into Raccoon hunting a Crewman . He was a dog food distributor on the side and kept my German Shepherd happy and for years delivered free . When Sarge passed I gave him the knife as a thank you . I’ve been looking to buy a fixed blade you just sparked an interest. Dan

Pretty sweet lineup you've got there. I've always thought that finish they put on those blades is pretty cool. I'd love to see your knife collection as a whole, bet it's pretty impressive. I don't think you've posted the same knife twice since you've joined!

Very nice! Beckers are great and an easy recommendation when anyone askse about getting a workhorse fixed blade.

BK7 is my go to camp knife... Sold off my BK2 after getting that one.

The BK21 is my bushwacking yard knife.

No experience with the Ka-Bar Snody knives. All of my Ka-Bars are the Ethan Beckers except one very old bakelite hobo knife.

The Benchmade 201 Activator is a Snody designed knife that I really enjoy.

Here is my only non-Becker Ka-Bar.

I guess I was wrong about the bakelite I'm pretty sure looking at it again that the handle is celluloid. I haven't turned up much info on it but I'm pretty sure that from what little Ka-Bar history I know that having both the Ka-Bar and Union Cutlery blade stamping on it place it between 1952-1966.

It's a nice one. At least I think it is anyway haha.. Simple in every way and as comfortable as anything else out there. There's something to be said about the same design getting the job done for over a hundred years..

I love the wood handles. If I had my way every knife would sport wood handles. It just feels better and looks better in the wild.

I alternate the BK9 with an Esee Junglas and an OKC RTAK II for working in the yard. I find that the BK9 is a good chopper even though it is shorter than the others.

I also keep a BK16 in one of my packs.

That's a nice find. I've seen some vintage Ka-Bar branded folders and they're good quality.
