Solar Eclipse!

We're fortunate enough to have lived within the path of totality here in Syracuse, NY and it did not disappoint!

Back in 2017 we were part of a partial eclipse, but I really didn't think much of it. Today, we got to experience this from the driveway of our home! This was at 3:23pm.

This event has been hyped up for months, and I have to agree, it was a pretty incredible experience leading up to totality as the temperature dramatically decreased, the winds picked up. The birds were flying every which way making all sorts of noise. As totality hit, they all instantly stopped chirping. You couldn't hear anything, it was as if nature was on pause. It was never pitch black darkness, but an eery hue compared to a typical dusk setting. Our street lights and solar lights all turned on for a few minutes in the middle of a fairly sunny day. I'm very grateful to have been able to experience such a crazy event, even if only for a few minutes, without even having to leave my own home!

Very cool! We had a similar experience - it was incredible to live in the path of totality and notice all the little ways the environment changed for a few minutes. I noticed the birds in our valley seemingly disappearing too - all our animals were also visibly weirded out gor about 30 minutes.

It was an imcredible thing to have the opportunity to see.

Great shots, Rick! I got a handful of photos of the partial eclipse here in Mass. The maximum coverage I saw was about as much as your second photo.

If I wasn’t working today, I was planning to drive up to Maine to get into the path of totality. Luckily I wasn’t busy and could still check it out, at least.

It is incredible. Travelled to South Carolina in 2017 to experience totality. Words cannot describe the unique experience.

We made a mini vacation out of it and it definitely exceeded our expectations. What a great experience.

Didn't try very hard, but was happy with a couple hand held shots from my old FZ80

I really thought all the hoopla was a bit overblown leading up to the day. It is really hard to put the experience into words. I've never felt so strange, it was like an apocalyptic movie scene or something. Definitely the coolest nature/environmental situation I've ever experienced in my 40 years. I'll never forget it. I keep thinking about it today and getting that weird feeling inside all over again. So awesome. I really wish it was possible more often!

Abba - where did you guys go to view it? Those are great shots!

Those are amazing shots, guys.

I noticed absolutely nothing out of the ordinary over here. To the point I nearly forgot there was an eclipse.

Montpellier VT. We felt good supporting that city after they got two "once every 100 years flood" in the past year.

I didn't catch this eclipse, but I caught the 2017 eclipse. The following photo is a composite of photos I took with an iPhone through a (protected) spotting scope...
