View Full Version : Good Job Sal!!!
I admire your professionalism here and at BFC regarding the BM/Blackwood debate. I think sometimes those guys just like to hear themselves type over at BFC. It irks me that BM/Blackwood can do this. The attacks that "Spyderco should not be able to trademark the hole" is ludicrous(sp?) Spyderco is the round hole. If you can't come up with anything better for your own company and you need to steal from another you are now no better than all those cheap knock off companies.
Just curious and really none of my business but did Mr. Blackwood get permission or is he betting the loop hole theory? Take Care and have a Merry Christmas!

Hi CKE.
Thanx for the support.
I had heard that Neil had signed on with BM, but we'd not seen his designs before. Probably because he primarily uses the internet for his promoting. We watch the industry publications.
(The internet is too broad. We found an ad on the internet for a "rare Spyderco automatic". It even had our logo on the blade. We purchased it for $15 and they used the public mail system to tranport it over state lines. so much for the law. Lotsa people out there trying to look like Spyderco).
It is entirely possible that Neil had no idea that there was a trademark or that licensing was even an option.
However, I believe Lester knows quite clearly. It sure must be important for them.
I don't know if Neil is part of "the challenge" or he just got caught up.

While I am sure things will work out in the good for you. If Neil got caought up in all this I feel bad for him as it may have a negative impact on him. BM has lost my business for ever. Keep up the good work and may 2004 be very prosperous for you and CO. If my wallet has anything to say it will be. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Take Care!!!

I do respect mr. Blackwood's work, but I heard he had a similar problem (cloning) with some credit card knives some time ago.
It's a bad thing, because he obviously is a gifted knifemaker and he definitely could find resources to make his own personal style without having to borrow "alien artifacts".

"the challenge" - is that some kind of test of the Spyderco round hole trademark?
Implying that if Benchmade succeed in challenging the TM, then the doors become wide open for any manufacturer to use the round hole opening device?
A good friend of mine says "if you can't join 'em, beat 'em"
How about some nice new Spyderco frame locks? <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Sal, I find this kind of behaviour (Neil's and Les's) revolting and disrespectful!
In my mind this design is simply a carbon copy of a Spyderco invention.
The fact that there are three holes doesn't make any difference as long as the largest hole is used in order to flip up the blade
! That's simple logic.
Your opponents are simply playing with words.
Take care,

It seems to me that you should buy your knives from honorable men. This kind of incident makes purchasing decisions much easier.

Sal & gang :
Plagiarism is the most vile form of art, and
Benchmade should get a life! Now I see why I stopped with their "Mini Griptillian".
