Weeeell,
Many people seem to cut themselves on those Guntings. Dare I buy one? Maybe if the blade was a liiitle bit longer (3.5 eh, did I hear 4? Yes 4 inches). Then maybe people would not be put of by those openingaccidents that have been happening (not saying that anyone has been put of, what would I know, I am only a humble user<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>). You know, it would not snag the leg.
I know Mr Bram, you have made it clear NOT to open it on the leg, but hey. You know people don´t listen. I do, no disrespect, but others do not. So pretty please with sugar on it: 4 inch blade. yeeess???
Thank you, thank you, thank you...
Thank you.

I just got a gunting and everyone seemed to like it. Common request among most was a longer blade. I'm going to a Bram seminar to see it in action. But I can't help but think a little bigger would be better.

If Bram and others think a longer blade would increase and/or improve function in some way then I'd say do it. If a "big" Gunting might have a market the current model doesn't, I'd say do it. BUT, I would not change a knife design simply because some people cut themselves with it doing what they were told not to do. To do so brings us too close to the "anti-whatever" mentality of protecting everyone from everything. I got to meet Bram at the NY show. He showed me the Gunting himself. He demonstrated some kinetic openings. He mentioned not opening on your leg. He even told a story about his wife (I think) who did use her leg and sliced (fortunately) only a pair of stockings. He recommended the trainer and the video. I got a live blade only. I opened it on my leg at the exact moment I remembered that I wasn't supposed to. Four stitches. Good for me, I deserved it. The Gunting doesn't need adjusting, I did.

"/.../again..If one is talking a "military only" restricted version with another inch or so of handle and a thickened blade, apple seed tip, 5"+ blade... for combative situations..
well Ok..maybe/.../"
I believe this is a quote from Bram himself taken from a forum.
I can only say: Yes please. 4 inches will be enough (not five inches, the stress on the joint/lock increases, you know).
There will always be people cutting themselves.

Making the blade bigger won't stop it from cutting ones leg if the Kin-Op system is used..a good clean Kinetic opening on your own leg and "BAM" blood guts and stuff all over..can't be done..One does not have the bio-mechanical ability to get around ones own leg....
Bigger? why? that would limit it in many places that allow three inches or less..
Its a common pocket knife @ three inches..
Plus what do you think.. you can cut better with a bigger blade..especially when you are talking a silly inch..? want to try it with me..?
You use a 4 inch and I'll use that silly little three inch..we see who cuts more, deeper and faster..
Ever seen Popa Spyder take a serrated Ladybug and cut a hanging one inch hemp rope in one clean motion????
hell thats a finger.."BAM GONE!"
I've cut 6 inches deep and as long a cut as i have contact with a 2 7/8ths inch blade..
the blade just keeps on going..
really..its illusion,,Thre inches cuts real well and its balance is wonderful..
yup tthere other tricks in my magic bag but I have to keep them there till we really get GUNTINGs going..
yeah modular blades that fit into existing GUNTINS might be nice...same handle different blades ....yup a bit o bigger if I remember correctly..BUT thats way in the future..
come on out to MBC and cut with me.. I'll try to change your mind!!!!

Thanks for your response Bram!
I will stop pestering you about a longer blade. I´m saving some money to buy the Gunting (retiring my old, trustworthy Delica). Ah, I could buy the Gunting immediately but I also want the tapes and the trainer (comes in together at around 300 bucks). Would love som hands on training, the best way to learn a skill. But I´m writing from Europe so it will be hard to get that chance.
Will be looking forward to your next line of products.
Thanks again,
Colinz
