View Full Version : 1st spyderco
I recently decided to purchase a new knife and I fell in love with the pictures of different spiderco's on the internet. This would be my first spyderco and I need advice on which one to purchase. My needs in the new knife are for it to be a concealable self defense/combat knife since I work in a dangerous area but it also needs to be occasionally used as a cutting tool but that would not be its primary purpose. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know what the laws are down there for carry, so I'll have to give a wide list.
Any of the MBC knives(Matriarch, Civilian, Chinook, Ronin, Yojimbo(04 model, not out yet), or lil temp), or the largly available ones(endura[classic], delica, harpy, spyderhawk(04 discon)...
even the cricket can do a number if pushed.
or is you want the best, get a Military. 4", 4.0oz and flat.

Very affordable+high performance <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> for the first-timer! Howdy Loki,
I'm in your neck of the woods and I've been trying to figure out what is legal as well.
I've been given answers anywhere from 2" to "no length limit". I've read the code and I can't make any sense of it. I've also noticed that people seem to carry whatever they want to with impunity. That is, there are plenty of people walking around with some very large looking folders clipped to their pockets.
Anyway, I also recently bought my first Spyderco. I got a Lil' Temperance and love it. I also have a friendly looking blue Delica on order for those times when the Lil Temp might not be appropriate. A yojimbo will be next. I'm trying to keep blade length around 3".
If you are near B'Ham, stop by Mark's Outdoors. They have a nice knife section - unfortunately they let their Spyderco stock get really low sometimes, but you can probably always find a Delica there.

"...a concealable self defense/combat knife".
That would be either an Endura, a Military, or a Police model. There is also the recently released Chinook II, but it might be a little too heavy and large for you.

Welcome to the <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>co Forums, Loki! I think the Endura or the Native would make an idea first <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>co. RKBA!

Welcome to the Spyderco forum. If you are looking for a reliable, low profile yet affordable knife go for the Delica. But if you want a really tough knife, than the Lil'Temperance is the thing. It is also low profile, but tough like a tank.
You could also consider the Gunting. It is especially made for MBC.
