Aloha all!

Just out of curiousity and please really think this over before you reply...What about serrations, a small section of them in the MIDDLE of the blade? you'd still have the advantage of detail work w/ the PE front, and sometimes, I need PE on the rear for the same reason as the front but with more control. Besides, the SE portion is normally dragged through midway of the knife. I think this would work well on Endura sized blades but if done correctly, on Delica sized blades as well. just a thought, some opinions please...BUT REMEMBER, don't 86 this intil you give it some thought!

Mahalo All!

Had a similar thought yesterday while slicing paper with SE. A bigger blade would have been good but a full SE would be too much. However a CE with the teeth near the pivot means that on a large flat surface it's hard to get the teeth to cut without the rest of the blade getting in the way. I'd thought maybe SE near the tip, didn't occur to me to put it in the middle, seems like a better idea than mine. Either that or go for something like an 25/75 PE/SE ratio on a blade with an upsweep near the tip to keep it out of the way when using SE. Sorry, rambling thoughts.

I have a one-handed Victorinox SAK that has the serrations on the front of the blade. I think that each section of the average blade is used for specific purposes that are best served by serrations, or lack thereof. For cutting rope I tend to use the part nearest the handle. For wood carving I use 1/2 to 1 inch out from the handle. For craft work and opening boxes I use the front. So for me serrations on the far back work well with a decent size plain edge in the middle to front. The SAK that I have is interesting, though not my style.

Ok Chad, held off on answering this one for a day, gave it plenty of thoughts, still can't think of any task I normally perform with a knife where serrations, no matter where located on the blade, would be of real value to me and think putting them in the middle would just make sharpening a nightmare. Think my being a lefty may have a lot to do with my attitute, as the serrations always seem to be on the &quot;wrong&quot; side of the blade for me. Over forty years of experience sharpening plain edge blades versus nearly none sharpening serrations is probably a factor too. Old and set in my ways to some extent I guess.

Gosh, and I thought the serrations on th eleft side of the blade would be perfect, as they provode some sort of chisel grind.
I never understood why chisel ground knives are beveled on the left side of the blade.. it makes cutting slices of what ever relatively difficult for us non-southpaws.

There was a CE Police version with the serrations near the tip made some time ago, but I'm not aware of any knife with the serrations at the half of the blade. I guess it could prove a useful idea.
I wouldn't put the serrations exactly in the middle, but a bit closer to the handles, though.

One word, Dyad. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> Best of both blades.
Sorry, couldn't resist. However, the center of the blade sounds like a good place for serrations on a CE blade.

Mark.
