I may be going to California on business soon and would like to know if my Native would be acceptable in California. Also I may take my Ronin if it arrives before I leave. What are the laws.

Mark,

I'm no lawyer, but I've carried lots of more menacing stuff here than you plan to bring.I think they're very strict about automatics, and butterfly types.

Mind you, I've never felt the need to carry a knife in Beverly Hills or at Disneyland, but unless you're real tattooed with a wife-beater t-shirt, you shouldn't have a problem.

Thanks Dave. I just wanted to be sure. It seems like I have looked at the carry laws for CA and they have a bigger blade limit than anything I carry, but I couldn't recall for sure. Thanks again.

Sypdieman,

Local city ordinances may vary, but California state law says any size folder is OK. Fixed blades like the Ronin, however, cannot be carried concealed.

Best regards,

Argyll

You can carry any folder. But if the blade locks open it can not be carried concealed with the blade open. Also you can not carry a fixed blade concealed.

Ya, my understanding is:
- No concealed fixed blades. Essentially, that means you shouldn't bother bringing your fixed blade, at least for carry.

- No state law on folder length, which means in most places, you can carry whatever you want. A 6"-bladed Vaquero Grande is kosher. HOWEVER, some municipalities have their own laws. I understand a few of the cities near LA have 3" blade limits, for example.

Thanks all for the information. I will be leaving my ronin at home then. I appreciate everyone's input.

Hey. . .I just moved to LA from Memphis 2 months ago. I've never been too emphatic about carrying a knife, but now that I found that they don't honor my TN gun permit and it's difficult to get one here, I carry my native everyday. As I understand it, that's correct. . . .3 inches in some places in LA and 4 inches elsewhere. I just clip it on my pocket and no one has hassled me yet.
