View Full Version : DoDo Lock - disengagement
Got my new Dodo for xmas - have just given it it's first clean-up with hot water and soap. Dried it off and applied a few drops of Ballistol to the hinge and lock spring.
Now, if I open the Dodo fast, or moderately fast, its gets to be a SERIOUS pain to make the ball-bearing lock disengage. If I open it really slowly, then it's no problem to disengage.
So I'm guessing this ball-bearing is getting jammed too hard into the tang. Anyone else found this, or can help with suggestions ?
Thanks
Welcome to the Forum! Call Spyderco warranty. This is only the fourth time I have heard this. Don't let it scare you off the Dodo. It is one of my fav Spydies and is totally awesome. Some though(4) have had a ball bearing lock problem. Call them and they will be most helpful. Stick around and enjoy the forum, Take Care!!!

Sorry, I meant to ask is the lock failing as in you can push it closed after it has locked?

Hi, thanks for the welcome.
My DoDo lock isn't failing - ie. the knife is not closing on me. The probem is more the opposite - very very difficult to make the lock disengage. I sometime need to use a little screwdriver as a pry-bar to shift the ball back so the knife can cose.
I reckon the ball is getting jammed in the tang, or alternatively there is something obstructing the spring (in the knife handle). Hard to say without taking the knife apart.
Definelty do not take it apart. Call warranty and repair, have yet to hear of one not being able to close. Hope this helps, Take Care!!!

Many thanks for the excellent service; and my new Dodo which arrived today.
It's funny how quickly one gets used to one's knife, and I've missed it this last few days. Thanks for sending me a new one so quickly.
Best wishes

Nice to hear you got such speedy service Waf. I sent my Dodo in on Monday (because the lock was failing) and hopefully it won't take too long before it's back in my pocket. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
