Anyone check out the June 2004 issue of KI yet?? Good bit of Spyderco coverage.
First a synopsis on the SHOT with their brief takes on the Assist I and II, D'Allara Rescue, Persian, Kerambit, folding Ronin, Scorpius, Salt-1, Spyderfly, and the Chinook.
There is also an article breifly telling some of the history and the phillosophy behind collaborations. When they mentioned major cutlery companies' collaborations with known makers and other companies, Spyderco had nearly 50 models credited. Seems like Sal wrote the book on collaboration.
And finally, "<i>The Innovative Edge<i>" is ALL about Spyderco. For those who have yet to meet Sal, this is an insightful glimpse into the man, his company, and his phillosophies in creating some of the most ergonomical, functional, and innovative high performance knives for the best value. Sal speaks a bit about Spyderco's beginnings, the competitive knife market, blade coatings, customers, and the Spyderco reputation. Don't let me spoil it all here. To quote Sal and KI, "<i>"The knife industry is a maverick industry in many ways. Knife people are a little more independent. They bother to think for themselves," he reflects. The man imbodies this sentiment.</i>"
Good read. Go grab a copy and think about it.
