Who knows which is the best knife sharpener? I want to be able to sharpen a wide variety of shaps and sized, but mostly want a very sharp edge.

Hey John
I also had the same question not to long ago, searched the net for about a week looking at reviews.
I came across the Spyderco 204 Sharpmaker that way (my Gerber blades came to me blunt), gave it a try and they sure are sharp now, best thing about the package you buy is the book and video, anyone can use it, really is well done.
If you want a sharpener for all round blades Id suggest the 204 (Not cause Im a spydie fan (love many good brands like Gerber as well) but I found it works very well.
P.S dont touch the Gerber diamond sharpener with a 10 foot pole, 1 of the worst thing they have produced.
Hope this helps

In my experience, the Spydie Sharpmaker is the best bang for your buck out there for making things sharp. It is debated that the EdgePro is better, but for several times the price, I would expect nothing less. I am intending to pick one up as soon as my tax return check comes back, and then I can give a better report. For the time being, the Sharpmaker does a great job though, and it's a hell of a lot easier to use than the clamp on systems.

The Sharpmaker 204 is fantastic. If you have experience with freehand sharpening then the Spyderco Profile set is really versatile.

I have had one of my blades done with a 204, but liked the edge freehand gives better. I use about 6 stones to sharpen, and can take a dull knife to hair-slipping in about 20 minutes... It's only a question of how fast you want the edge.
