Is the steel the same grade? Does this number tell the whole story? Because I keep reading about the very good quality of steel used in the Military model, and if it uses the same steel as the Native it seems that the Native is a real steal! I want one anyway, just pondering...Jeff/1911.

Yep, same steel is in both knives. The difference is again seen in the grinds, as well as in the handle materials. The Native Lightweight with 440V is made out of FRN and uses a backlock, the Military has the better handle, made of G-10 with a nested linerlock. Don't get me wrong, FRN isn't bad stuff, I have a couple user knives in it, and have carried a few others that are no longer in my possesion for one reason or another with great results. I just prefer the texture and feel of G-10.

tique - I really like G-10 too. At least it certainly looked and felt nice on the knives I've handled in the local shop. They have a G-10 serrated Rookie in stock at the moment, that might be a great knife to buy while I still can as I understand they are now discontinued. I didn't realize the Rookie was ever made in G-10. Jeff/1911.
