Coins from Canada

Can one of you tell me if Canada coins were ever made of silver.I have a 1959 quarter and I am not sure if it is silver.

Hey there,

I'm almost 100% sure there were silver quarters here in Canada, but it wasn't for very long (because of the cost) but I couldn't confirm which year it was. I'll try to find more info in my books. Best I can do for now

Jeff- I believe the silver years (80%) are the same as the US- Pre-1964.

Coin collector or just something you came across?
I got some vintage &quot;tokens&quot; that were to be used by an electric train system here in HI...there's a hula girl on it and there are cutouts on the coin itself. These were made prior to the &quot;Train system&quot; becoming a reality...which BTW, never happened. Interested? They aren't made of precious metal, but they're quite interesting if you collect coins.

Not really a collector.Just have a few put back.I tried it at one time but it was just to expensive.
I just sold a bunch of Morgan dollars and barber halves and the like for my mother and aunt that came from my great aunt that just passed away.There were a couple old Canada coins left over.
Still have a couple of 1950s red seal 2 dollar bills and some silver certificates but there doesn't seem to be any interest in them.

My grandfather collected coins and stamps...someting I never understood. I'm sure he's saying the same about my collecting habit, rest his soul!

Thanks.They are in good shape.Got 5 1935 without in God we trust on them and several from the 1950s.

*blinks twice* Did you say 193&lt;i&gt;5&lt;/i&gt; no motto? Are you quite sure? I'll have to check, but I thought the last year w/o motto was 1934, making '35 the first ones with.

All in good shape,as a matter of fact they are in better shape than the ones from the 50s

The '35 G is the most common issue without, as it was the first one printed, oddly enough. (Why not start with A?)

The '35 Es, though, are worth a few bucks. Pal those together at a coin shop and you could likely buy a new <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> for the collection. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

One thing about living in Michigan is you can reach into your pants pocket and half of the change in it will be Canadian. It's pretty much at face value with the USD here.
