Aloha All!

Day off. Got a nasty cold. Damn.

Anyway, took my wife to the Salvation army as you never can tell what you may find there! Got an awesome Samurai warrior print "signed" with the red seal of the artist for 2$. Then, took my wife to this vietnamese place for their awesome walnut chiken. Ahhh...

Then, I go and visit this old guy who owns this lil' hole in the wall knife shop. In fact, he owns the whole block! We do our normal greetings, and he goes, "OH, I found these in the back, dunno if you want them..."

OUT he comes with the following in hand:

1st Gen.SS PE MARINER

1st Gen.SS SE EXECUTIVE (I think)

1st or 2nd Gen. SS SE G2 HARPY

I looked at my wife as the tags were in the 70-80$ range for each...she goes, "Well, our 6 yr. anniversary IS next month, so..."

SO, after giving my wife a hug that'd make ANY UFC guy "tap out"I ended up getting ALL of them in MINT condition, no box though, but hey...I'm thankful in that I just parted w/ my PE Harpy to a dear friend of mine. No way to replace that harpy, unless i buy a current one. (so i thought, that is)

BUT, God has blessed me not only with a very great and understanding wife, but also God has shown me that truly, you get what you give.

Price for ALL of them...150$ Wait, it gets better...

The knife shop owner also gave me his old " Spyderco window ad" that shows various delicas, Enduras, Mariners, Executives, harpy's, etc...Think this ad is from the 80's. It says something along the likes of "Look at the new breed of folding knife". Cool, VERY cool.

What makes these latest additions special is not only are they Anniversary reminders, but this knife shop owner had some 1st. gen. Spyders. So that means I got the 1st(My PE Worker), 2nd, 4th etc. knives ever made by Spyderco! If he can find another Hunter, and a Standard, I'll be stoked!

I forget what psalm states this, but it goes,: "this is the day that The Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!"

Amen!!!

BTW-Ted, do you have any OLD pics of Executives?

God bless you all. Period.

Chad

Oh, and any chance that you can scan that Spyderco advertisement and post it (or e-mail it)?

Thanks,
Ted

Daywalker / Chad,

Awesome day you had there! Sometimes a cold is a blessing in disguise eh? <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Have a great day,
Kaizer.

Sounds like you had a great day my friend, in spite of the cold. Very nice finds there at a dynamite price. Not sure if the Executive in this picture is &quot;1st Generation&quot; or not, but the steel type is not marked on the blade, just SPYDERCO on the one side and SEKI - JAPAN on the other, and the box is like the one in Ted's pictures - blue, with no date marking or barcode. No clue as to where that puts it in the &quot;evolutionary chain&quot;.

Wherever yours falls, its a nice find, the Executive is a neat little knife and one of the ones you don't see every day. The Mariner sounds great too. Is it vented or ventless? Believe the really early ones did not have vents and were marked MARINER on the blade, but I could be wrong on that as I am on so many points of Spyderco history. Again, any PE Mariner is a rare bird and a great find.

Looks like you now have to find a really special anniversary gift for your wife!

Hope you feel better soon.

Paul

Great story and wonderful wife you have! It is great to hear how relatively small things can provide so much contentment and happiness.

Ted: Are those really ALL the pictures you have of the exec? How pityful LOL!!! Makes me wonder how long a post that would be if you were ever asked to show all pics you have of something more mainstream, like the Military ;-).

Speaking of which, not wanting to pirate this post, but any chance you have some nice pics of the ATR as well? Love your webpage btw.

Isn't it cool how things that we collect sometimes pop up so unexpectedly?

That's what I love about collecting things...you sometimes find that special something-or-other in an unexpected place or time. And occasionally, at a great price.

Last Saturday, I was at the local movie rental store. They had boxes of movie posters set out. I asked the guy if he had one of the &quot;Band of Brohers&quot;, and he said yes. We dug around and finally found it. For $3!

Now that I have the poster, I gotta send it to one of the members of Easy Co. (Band of Brothers) to have him autograph it. I love collecting that stuff!
(sorry to ramble for so long).

Congratulatiosn on your new fine knives Chad. Indeed a nice find <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
You know, guys, some knives (like the Executive posted here) make me very nervous. Because I didn't designed them. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> But what really makes me eat my heart out is Daywalker's ITR. I'd switch a couple of &quot;Dialicas&quot; for an ITR <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Aloha All!

Yes, I am VERY blessed to have found such a wonderful wife. Sometimes, she doesn't understand my &quot;need&quot; for all these knives, but I always win this one when I compare it to her having so many shoes! LOL!

TED...Boy, not many pictures of the Exec, eh? Thanks anyway...LOL! Seriously, thank you for posting them images for me. The Exec I got is like Deacon's one, but SE...no designated type of steel used. I'll try to get an image up of that old Spyderco Counter Top Display ASAP! Great Memorabilia!

PAUL...this second Mariner that I got is like my first one, (I GAVE the other one I bought a few months ago to a work buddy of mine, along w/ my FRN Horn, CE FRN Endura, AND my Diver...to start him into this addiction correctly!) it has a vent, along with the word MARINER on the blade. Same size and pretty much the same shape as my old integral FRN SE Rescue.

SVEN...YES, God is Great Indeed!
BTW guys, i asked that old shop owner if &quot;this was all he had regarding &quot;Old Spyders&quot;...He said he was &quot;pretty sure&quot;, so there still may be some hope left in getting that Hunter I need! I'll check him out next week on my days off and let ya guys know.

ALEX...Ixnay on the etailsday! In other words, SHHHHHH! LOL! Mahalo for the complement, and if you're serious about the Dialica...

God bless and take care all!
