Who has one? Who would love one? And in which flavour? Does it rock, and if it does why?

I'm really thinking of getting one but can't pick between the Tanto, the Talon or the Spike FIRST

Aloha Shards of Narsil!

DON'T DO IT MY FRIEND! I had the Tanto version..."HAD". I gave the thing away for the following reasons:

1:NO grip...the handle is too darn narrow!

2:Sheath...Ya really had to CRAM the knife in there for it to STAY there!

3: Practiced some MBC moves w/ it and it had the habit of shifting in hand due to reason #1! The "thread" CS uses to wrap the handle is useless!

So why did I buy it? A co-worker of mine sells knives, flashlights, etc...to support his income. That's the ONLY reason why I bought it! But if you MUST have one, check out cheaperthandirt.com...they sell an "imported one" (I have handled this one as well as the real deal, they're BOTh almost identical!) for under 10$. Try this one FIRST, and you'll see what I mean.

Take care!

Hello Shards

I agree with Daywalker! I have a number of CS products which I'm very happy with! The Trailmaster range of Bowies are great knives. But these Spikes, even for a neck knife aren't very practical. Though "cord" wrapped, the handle offers hardly any grip because of the size.

The blade is like a wedge and is not practical for a number of cutting applications. Even for stabbing you could end up doing yourself more damage than an attacker! As a defense tool you could find better offerings even from Cold Steel.

Regards Ken

Do not condemn the judgement of another because it differs from your own. You may both be wrong.

Aloha bargainblades!

Ahhh, cutting "applications"...it is touted as a "zero edge" or something like that, and is a wedge as you stated. A thick one at that being 1/4 in!

Also, thank you for emphasizing "more damage to USER than attacker". NORMALLY, I do NOT tape my blades when training, and I alomost ended up getting more damage than one of my "training limbs"!

OBTW, you gotta CRAM the blade in so hard into it's sheath that it feels as if the ball chain is gonna bust before the knife comes out! Now, this may not be an issue if you're gonna lash it to gear or a belt, but being that I live in Hawaii...a belt on surf shorts...uh, no can do.

God bless,
Chad

Chad, Ken, thanks for the quick input!

Just saved me some dough then! It's going kinda cheap and the idea seemed to be sound. I was thinking it was more of a stab than a cut but after what you guys said, *shudder*. I've heard a few nightmare stories about 'wedges'.

So much for new alternatives. Mebe I'll just get another Delica to make mine a pair.

P.S. Don't suppose there is anything problematic about black blades I ought to know about, is there?

If you want a good all around slasher and stabber, you could concider a Scimitar. Not the most beautiful knife on the market but it does the job. But you better stick with Spyderco anyway.

Aloha Shards of Narsil,

Close call, but I was glad to hear that bargainblades and I were able to save you from a "regret".

As for black blades, the guy I bought the Spike from has an old integral FRN black bladed Endura...he uses it for EVERYTHING! the finish has held up well.

I have a few CS knives, and I like em. my favorite is my AUS8 Safekeeper III, or my large Gunsite folder. Still looking for a Vaquero or El Lobo in PE. The Spike was a disappointment.

Take care!

Gunsite huh? Will look into that. Thanks!

For now, either a black blade Delica or that Wayne Goddard Lightweight Sprint for me!

From the looks, I'd rate the CS Spike similar to the CRKT Stiff Kiss. If that is true, the knife is nearly useless. I bought the Kiss thinking it'd make an interesting beater knife. Wrong. Can't hold an edge, can't cut well at all when it does, and the sheath is clunky at best.

The Man's Prayer- I am a man. But I can change. If I have to. I guess...

hi,i had this gunsite 2,gunsite is a renowed training school on the u.s.,they put the namw after licencing the knife of ´´the oficial gunsite knife.i liked a lot this gunsite tanto,but.........it was VERY hard to put the knife in or out,i mean very hard-
i carry an al-mar sere2000,wich is the first knife intended for survival evasion resistance escape,.well on this forum somone said (r.i.p)al showed spyderco the way arround in japan (introduced).well this knife is very smooth and sharp,it will perform in any job or mision.but as the chairman of spyderco said:´´´THE BEST KNIFE IS THE ONE YOU HAVE IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION´´,(an interview for the lil´ temprance c69.)if you want a smoth clip and a regular priced and all the way arround,i used the endurra serrated blade, and its a good blade,well.....i have a huge hand.do it may not be efective for a hard work in your hand.(general use, utility folding and fixed blades, for oficers and all public in general),for example chris reeve make´s a far more good knifes than al-mar,but i cant pay 400 bucks for this perfect knife,i held it,well ask any knife shop sales man!.Aply this with cars, want to go traveling, choose a ferrari testarosa,or a jeep???,got it?
JUST GO TO A SHOP FEEL THIS BLADES,ASK YOURSELF WHAT I NEED THE KNIFE FOR???,DOES MY HAND FEEL NICE IN IT,.
at list you have planty of shops, here in mexico is f----ing hard to find.

THE BEST KNIFE IS THE ONE YOUR HAND AND HEART LIKES
