View Full Version : The beast lurked silently, its mighty jaw filled with horrid teeth...

For a while now I think I've been one of the last, if not the last Spydernut that had not yet been cut by a Spyderco in use. Perhaps it was just luck, or the good knife handling habits developed after working as a chef for several years.

So now that Spring is in full swing, it was time to take the Matriarch out of hibernation, as a back up on those evening walks or just going out to smoke a pipe. Well, I pulled it out of the knife case, opened it, looked it over, then closed it. Being accustomed to the linerlocks which I use day-to-day, I was not prepared for the blade to snap shut under the force of the lockback's spring -- and that is when she got me.

Only a slight pinch from one tooth, but enough to draw just a tiny bit of blood. But the significance is mainly symbolic: I too have been blooded.

Anyone else out there feel the bite recently?

I was cutting boxes apart with my cricket and, unused to liner-lock, moved my finger wrong... I hit the inner curve, and one tooth on the serrations, and kept going before I noticed... good thing it deflected. It barely drew blood, but enough for me to learn how to handle a liner-lock.

Not recently, but when my Matriarch bit me, it drew much more than a tiny bit... Suffice to say that, when I came back from getting stitches, the room where I cut myself reeked of blood. Nasty...

And I was also a cook for some years. It happened cause I was somewhat sleepy (it was late at night) and careless while doing some manipulations. That and the fact that I wasn't used to the blade profile yet, I guess.
One thing I know now for sure: it works...

Just yesterday I cut myself with my Delica. I had it out and used it and was closing it to put it away and I was talking at the same time and stabbed it in my index finger. It didn't bleed that bad, just a little.

I just drew a tiny bit of blood from my legft palm... probably shouldn't have been playing with that wonderful razor-sharp military this time of the night while reading this wonderful forum .

I have found there is no graceful way to break a bone or cut yourself while playing with a knife.

(and no, I won't tell how I jammed a quarter inch of Calypso tip thru the polishing cloth into my leg)

Offered Bram a band-aid when he demonstrated a live Gunting at the NY Custom Knife Show last year... Used the ladybug to make an incision on my right knee to remove damaged tissue and some abscess...

I got a nasty cut from my mini AFCK the other day when I was sharpening it. I guess I wasn't paying as close of attention as I thought I was. I caught my self between my index and middle fingers. It hurt like heck too.

due to the fact that i received my first spyderco yesterday, i have not yet been cut by it. my goal is to see how long i can go.

when i got my timberline vallotten locking liner a few months ago, i did accidentally snap it shut on my finger and one of the teeth drew a dot of blood.

Yeah my Matriarch bit me aswell, had just got it, opened her up and had a good look rubbing my finger lightly along the blade, I though to myself, "this aint that sharp" and before closing it rubbed my left index nuckle on it to the side, closed it and went off to get something to drink, while sulking cause it wasnt "scary sharp" I looked down and saw blood running down my knuckle, not a very bad cut, but she bit me for doubtin her.
