View Full Version : OT...Generic vs. Namebrand
This topic came up at work a while back. Someone had stated that for the most part, the quality of "off-name" brand or the generic version of everyday products was equivalant to that of the name brands. The only exception he had to that was when it came to his cigarettes, bread, and coffee. Most of us agreed and had similar brand loyalties to certain items. What say the forumites?

I like store brand bread. It's yummy and not bad. Guess it depends on the person and product. I don't like the taste of store brand canned pastas (versus their Chef Boyardee and Franco-American counterparts), but some folks don't mind 'em. Sometimes, the store brand product is superior to what it's aping either overall or for the price.
Excuse me while I go flick a ClipIt and drink some Diet Coca Cola.

Ya maybe this is working on food but you wont see me buying a spyderco copie or replicata in anyway.
Of course, buying Spyderco is a given...

Has to be name brand cereal. Store brand cereals are crap I am pretty much a name brander, maybe to a fault. I like Heinz Ketchup, Franks Mustard etc. The occasional thing will be generic though...TakeCare!!!

I'll usually buy brand name for most things(food, lighter fluid, batts, shampoo, cd's)...
clothing is walmart brand(725) or mark's work warehouse(denver hayes).
Buying brand name usually assumes they have decent QC.

There is a saying here "I'm too poor to afford cheap things". I preffer brand names too. Speaking of brand names, I was so sorry to hear about Levi's. Looks they'll be out of business by the end of the year There fades away another American legend.

Perhaps on a few things he's right, but you usually get what you payed for. RKBA!
