View Full Version : MBC Skills self-evaluation
Within firearms training, there are tests to help measure foundational skill. The target is scored for shot placement, timers are used to induce mild stress, etc. This helps build a solid foundation before a student moves into 'combat' training.
In your MBC experience, have you found a practical self-test that would assess basic MBC skills?
Ideally, this test(s) would help to indentify the student's areas of improvement.
I welcome your comments.

Hey Seth,
Good question & a tough one. At my school we do what we call knife sparing. With bag gloves & short sticks (9" piece of rattan) we spar. Only targets are the hands and only tool you can use is the stick. Really is an atturbute builder more then a test. But it can be some what of a gauge.
...from whose bourn, no traveler returns.

Laugh if you want, but Magic Markers are great for sparring. They show exactly where you got"cut" & are very low-risk for injury.
theres lots of ways to check but none is the only way..each has its drawbacks as well as its benefits..
and we sure don't want to try in real time...
sticks are perscussive and encourage "whacking"...but sparring gives distance & timing
markers have no edge nor feel to the stroking..but gives elusive movement and sensitiveity..as well as sight of contact
cutting dummies give tactile sense but no movement..
training blades in drills lose reality..but give needed muscle memory and insight..
