Just received my new Calypso Jr and am in love with it already esp. that flat ground blade. Once I've given it a good run I'll be in a quandry in that I'll have to chose between the Calypso Jr, Delica and Native for my EDC. Which way do you think I'll go??

If you're anything like me Jdee, the Delica will wind up spending a lot of time on the shelf and the real choice will be between the Calypso Jr. and the Native. On days where strength might be an issue, the Native will get the nod, on days where you know it's just going to be food prep and opening the mail, the Calypso Jr. will be the tool of choice.

I do a fair ammount of work with leather and just put the Calypso through its paces on the bench. Great! Better than the Declica and Native in that department and the point is situated just about right. So what do I need - something a little bigger than the Delica with the toughness of the Native and the slicing ability of the Calypso and then I wouldn't have to make a decision. Maybe a flat ground Native would be the answer.

Congratulations on your new knife. I love the Calypso jr. too. It travelled to me quite a long way and it always serves me well. Yet, I keep returning to my old Delica for EDC. ;)
A Native in full flat grind, that would be nice. Could be even in black DLC coating, I can live with it. :D

Lil Temperance - ugly beast - could fit the bill but a bit out of my price range at the moment.

Jdee, I'm glad you like the Calypso. For something bigger, I think you're looking at the Manix. Full flat grind as well.

The spydie lum chinese is another good one, but the liner ls a wee bit thin for heavy stuff.

I second (or third) the Lil'T, but the Manix may fit the bill, too. Still, love the Calypso.

On a side note: I really would love the Lil'T with the chamfer on the spine of the blade, like the Calypso has.

Jdee, another one you might want to take a close look at is the Stretch. Nice size blade in a compact package, full flat grind with a useful yet sturdy point, plus traction grooves on the ramp and choil which make it very easy to control. The dual kraton inserts give a dual benfit, adding traction while holding down the weight, and the 4 way mountable clip leaves no carry option unaccounted for. Mine is fast becoming my most carried and most used Spydie.

Aloha JDEE!

Right on! Those three are a part of my EDC rotation! There's just NO way to choose just ONE :spyder: !!!

Thanks for all the advice. Having had a bit more time to evaluate the Calypso Jr I really believe I can't do without it - it is the best slicer I have had in a folder. So when I am not carrying a fixed blade for slicing I will have to carry the Calypso Jr. But, I can't do without my Native as when there is heavy work to do it is the one I reach for - so I'll have to carry the two. As for the Delica I'll reserve that for my "dress" knife. So I am set now until I get the next one then I'll have to make the "decisions" all over again. These are the hard decisions I like to make!

Jdee, the other one to look out for is the Spyderco UK knife. It's a slip joint, full flat grind like the calypso and G10 scales - wow, wow, wow!

Wish they had the UK knife in a locking format, and with a full clip (not the wire version) then it would be .......WOW, WOW, WOW!
