View Full Version : The original MBCF, and Temperance.

Some of us will recall the original prototypes for a "Martial Bladecraft folder." 3.5" upswept 440V blade (first hollow-ground, then flat-ground), nested rolling lock, 14mm hole. Link to a scan below of the first version:

Obviously this appears to have perished when the deal to licence the rolling lock fell through. Now my suspicion is that Temperance is the in-house successor to the original concept MBCF, but now with a Jr. model (3" blade) and a large model (3.75" blade) -- at least the shape of the upswept "trailing-point" blade seems to indicate this.

As far as Temperance proto's go, we've seen Jr's with trailing-point and spear-point (leaf shape?) blades, ad the large folder with the spear point.

Questions:

1. Will the large version of the folder be available in both spear-point and trailing point styles like the Jrs?

(I think most people are more interested in the Calypso-like spear-point, but I am nore a fan of the trailing-point design. Therefore the curiosity.)

2. What blade style(s) will be used for the fixed blade (or at least appeared on the proto)?

3. Any more info on what is happening with the FB? (size, sheath design, etc.)

4. One of the things I especially like about Temperance is the use of olive-drab rather than black formed G10. Will this be standard across all of the variations?

I too hope that the trailing point is alive in both(especially larger) sizes. The trailing point works well within my systems body mechanics.

I personally hope all MBC models maintain black as their uniform standard(I can see sprint batches for collection with color though). Colors look fine on models meant to be seen by the general public in the role of general utility, but MBC models shouldn't come into open view until a dire/violent situation has taken over, and black most likely won't attract as much attention as colors, IMO.

Sal,

I am also very interested in the Temperance series although I plan on getting the spear-point model. I have not yet read anything on the Temperance edge type (plain, serrated or partial). In an earlier post you indicated that there will only be 75 Temperance's of each blade style produced each month (plus 25 trainers for both blade styles). With such low numbers it seems likely that, at least initially, the Temperance models will only come in one edge type. I was wondering what type of edge that will be. Thanks

Hi Guys. Some intersting questions. I'll try to shed some light.

The Temp jr is as Carlos suggested, a spin off from the original larger design. My plan at the time (and still is) to bring out the jr first in both blade styles (with & without teeth).

Obviously there won't be many available, however I don't anticipate a huge demand. It is expensive and very "different" in many respencts.

If acceptance is acceptable, then we can go ahead with the larger version and the FB version. Both with both blades and trainers. Since there are so many variations of each model (blade shape, teeth, trainers), we will have to move a little slower. MBC is not our only focus.
