Homemaker??????

After reading the post here I went over to the products section and had a look at the &quot;Homemaker&quot;. I have to say I'm intrigued by the Granton edge. How would it perform in comparison to my Santoku? The latter is my absolute favourite kitchen knife, but I do find that the food remains stuck to the blade particularly when cutting thin slices. Would the Granton edge break the suction and prevent this happening? I'm assuming the knife is primarily intended for vegetable preparation. Should I replace my trusty Santoku with one <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>?



My wife loves it when I buy new kitchen knives as I spend even more time in the kitchen <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>.

Clay,as the poster for the previous Homemaker post I can say it would make you put your santoku back in the drawer. It is a little bit more 'Quality'. Thicker blade giving a little more stiffness and an attractive ebony ergonomic handle. Now in my top 2 kitchen knives.

Hi Clay. I don't know that I'd give up one for the other. The Homemaker is a nice piece. It is still experimental both in handle materials and steel.

The new Santoku / Chefs model scheduled for next year will have an upgraded handle.

Sal, thanks for your comments. I'll hang off for a while and see what happens. The Chef's Santoku sounds interesting.

V34, I haven't found any problem with the blade thickness of the Santoku. It is slightly thicker than the utility knife which I also find too flexible. I also dislike the way the the serrations on the latter make it slice off to one side, but it is my wife's favourite knife. That's fine by me just so long as it keeps her away from my Santoku <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>.

As usual, am a couple days and at least a dollar short on this thread. Read it yesterday, but nothing clicked. My wife's reminding me we owe two wedding gifts finally made a connection.

Is there any substantive source of information about the Homemaker, the special edge, the MDS steel, or the handle material? Would sure appreciate a link, or at least whether or not a web search might pay dividends.
