Hi,
I have always polished my blades to hair-popping shaving sharp. BUT my new CalyJr can shave and still has vertical 'micro-serrations'. This is nice, but I have been unable to acheive this. Is it done on a belt sander (the only way I can see to get it this even), or is there a different trick to it?

I have tried using a coarser stone and making vertical strokes, but then the edge grind can become uneven and it still doesn't form the tiny 'teeth' that I want and see on my new caly..

Thanks,

The Spyderco factory edge is a well garded secret.
The only way I know to have those micro-serrations is a 5$ MO and an enveloppe going to Colorado.

Yes I guess my title sounds like an oxymoron. The type of sharpness that I believe that "Klattman" is talking about is the type I achieve with my Razor Edge kit. That particular type of abrasive does get the knife hair shaving sharp but when you run the edge over your thumb nail you quickly see that it is a form of the micro serrations which these other fellows are referring to. It actually has kind of a roughness to it which really grabs at the smooth skin of a tomato peeling. I really don't know if it is a replica of what the Great :spyder: factory has manifested but it is close. I believe that I am on the same page as my fellow Spyder academics. The point being: There are different kinds of sharp. :) :spyder: :D

I prefer a honed edge. I have honed all of my Spydies. Just don't care for that rough edge.
