Following the advice of the G'ting cult, I purchased a Gunting drone. I did this prior to buying a live blade as an exploration.
After working out with the drone, I can't imagine learning kenetic openings and grip changes without it. I keep track of how many self-cuts I'd commit, as if it were a live blade. Let's just say that the cost of a drone is less than a visit to the ER.
I try to avoid bad developing bad habits, mindful to respect the drone as if it were edged.
Some folks may wonder why a drone costs as much as a live blade. In a week, my drone has seen more hard knock about use than any of my live blades. When I want to check my grip technique during a strike, I can go full speed with a measure of safety. Moreover, I seem to make better gains from the training time.
I now think of the Gunting as an intergrated system. Edged blade, drone, kydex sheath and training.
If you go Gunting, budget for the whole system. If you're not sure it's right for you, buy the drone first. A dinged up live Gunting has lesser value. But, even a scratched up drone will sell quick and hold it's value.
Bram and Sal really created a truly intergrated, yet adaptable, personal defense system. It would be like firearms training without practice ammo if you don't rock the Red G'
