I spell it d-u-l-l s-p-y-d-e-r-c-o

I just received my third spyderco - a Native - and I'm very disappointed with it!!

The main problem is that there is no sharp side to the blade!!! I don't think the final bevel grinding was done. Where the usual razor sharp edge is supposed to be is a narrow flat edge.

So - if I do the final sharpening myself does is void the warranty or do I have to send it back to Spyderco. I'm in Canada so I'm not sure what kind of complications I'll get into sending it back for warranty work across the border.

Some other problems include: the lines where the top and bottom bevels meet towards the point are not straight but are slightly curved; and grinding of the two sides of the blade near the choil are not even either. All around, not the best example of Spyderco's quality.

I have a Matriarch on order also - sure hope it doesn't come with a flat edge too!!!!!!

It sounds like one got past quality control. I would return it to the dealer you bought it from, or send it back to Spyderco customer service with a letter. I feel confident that they will make it right for you.

Thats the same thing that happend with my Gerber Mark II and Guardian Backup, they where more than willing to take it back for free sharpening if I was willing to pay for postage( insured from SA to USA, i think not)
I ended up using my 204 Sharpener and got the lill daggers to such an edge I can run the mark II down my arm (carefully) and have it clean shave all hair in its path.

Buddy where did you order the spydie from?, online or you get it at a dealer in Canada, if you got it from the dealer Id say take it back and demand a new one, if not Id suggest sending back to Spyderco if you can.

Good luck and sorry to hear about your problem, btw I have a matriarch, thank God its not any more sharp, that would be scary, lol
Cut myself a few times by just havin her touch me.

David,
Call Spyderco warrenty and repair, then send it to them insured. Knives returned to us as a result of Warrenty and repair should not cause us a problem with customs on the way back. I'm still waiting on my Endura II, so I will know better when it gets here.
This is the 1st knive I have had problems with out of the 17 Spydie's I've purchased and the several I have sold friends on.
Their warrenty folks are easy to talk to.

Just a temporary setback... Give the folks at customer service a call and I'll bet they'll have your Native done up razor sharp! <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

Hi 4 s ter. Welcome to the Spyderco forum. Sorry for the screw up. I would call Mike at Warrantee &amp; Repair, as suggested.

A dull Spyderco is a rare occurrance.

Same thing happened on my custom Bud Nealy Pesh Kabz. Should have seen the look on his face when I showed up at last year's Blade Show and asked if that's how it was meant to be!

(He immediately snatched it out of my hands, and sent it back to me razor sharp practically overnight..)

Sal is right. A dull Spyderco is a very rare occurance. Spyderco knows sharp. I am sure they will hook you right up.
