Is there any Spyderco whose tip won't break? It seems to me that a tanto style knife would be impervious to this type of damage.

What are you doing to break the tips?????? these are not screwdrivers

If you carry a Pocketwrench II in your wallet you'll never have to pry with your knife again.

The Bob Lum Tanto has the "hamaguri" tip - I think it's one of the strongest in its class.
Other spydies with tough tips: Pro Grip, ATR, Vesuvius and you can count even the Rescue and Assist ;)

Thank all of you for your feedback. I don't intend to use any knife as a prybar, but accidents do happen.

hi hubert, broken tips on Spyderco's are quite common actually, so don't feel bad about it. especially if you are the hard-use kind of guy it's almost inevitable. i've broken the tips on 2 delica's, 1 military and 1 police within 2 years myself :o . get a less pointier designed spyderco, like a Lum or an ATR.

The tip of the VG-10 Folding Lum Tanto is indeed quite strong, but what it gains in tip strength is lost in sharpness.
I have countersunk for screws in wood with the tip without any damage.

I have found the Spyderco tips such as the one on the Endura, JD Smith, Military to be way more stronger than the average tips on other major brands. I have ( by normal use) broke 3 Benchmade knife tips ( before I was converted to Spyderco. I know, I know I had to learn the hard expensive way. But it was worth it. I do agree that you have to be careful even with the best of them. Come on guys try not to be too hard on the brother. :D :spyder: ;)

Even though I know better, I have dug and cut for numerous puttied over screws and painted in nails to remove building materials during a recent home reno project. The knife, a Native III, came through in fine style. :)

The older C15 and C19 also have very thick tips.

The Lil' Temperance with its wide, thick, short blade should have good tip strength.

I have a titanium Lum folding tanto and, while it may not have great slicing ability due to the tip geometry, it is possible to get the "hamaguri" grind edge to hair-popping sharpness.

The JD Smith and the C-48 Tim Wegner both also have good thick spines, strong tips and great blade geometry. You could also put the PE Massad Ayoob in that league as well. :) :spyder: :)
