View Full Version : Baffled!
Ok, this is a real newbie question but I have thought long and hard and still can't figure it out. What does IWB mean? As in when someone carries their knife IWB.

IWB means inside the waistband. The knife(or handgun,as this is a common carry for sidearms as well. There are specific holsters for this carry.)is carried between one's pants & skin(or underwear,as the case may be)with the bulk of the weapon inside the pants & thus concealed by the waistband of the pants. When combined with an untucked shirt nothing is visable(the untucked shirt can be a giveaway to the streetwise, but with this being a common way to wear a T or sports shirt it becomes a case of"Is he or isn't he packing?"<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>.Common locations are crossdraw(in front of the hip on the weak side),appendex(in front of the hip on the strong side),just behind the hip on the strong side,or @ the small of the back(which I don't like:you cannot access your weapon while sitting & if you fall onto your back it's like you cracked your spine on a rock).IWB is a very effective carry if the knife can be secured:obviously the Spyderco clip does this.
