I carried a &quot;toothy&quot; one for a while as an EDC. Very durable, hefty blade. I gave it up though when I was through with work and had to return to class. Even though it is blunt tipped, I didn't think that it would go over well at my University. But overall, a very light and effective knife. I haven't handled the plain yet, but I plan to check one out as soon as possible. I guess it all depends on your purposes for the blade.

I love the plain edge Rescue ! So much in fact that I had made my own out of an earlier Rescue before Spyderco offered the plain edge. I have used it in several emergency medical situations and it worked great ! Having a plain, flat edge is easy to keep razor sharp and lets it act as more of a utility knife than just a rescue knife. I have always like the &quot;Sheeps foot&quot; type blade on pocket knives. It's too bad that Spyderco had to drop the steel handled Rescue before they offered the plain edge.

Howdy Sal! The sticks are made of bone and I guess the green laquered inlays were metal. In China, bone reacts to a certain toxin and were used mainly for food-tasting because itll turn black. Poisoning was a well proven method to eliminate political threats in ancient kingdoms of China. Not sure exactly what bones are used, but they are certainly light and good looking! <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> Bet it'll compliment your Lum Chinese Folder too!
Hmmm, come to think of it, the plain edged Rescue does resemble a razor blade now that you folks had mentioned its sharpness... <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> Any plans of having orange coloured handles for the plain-rescue?

I might be crazy, but it would seem that the whole idea of the Rescue is to get through seat belt and/or other fibrous material very rapidly. The serrated would seem to be the logical choice.

I would like a plain edge rescue. I see that they are now available. Personally, I am not a huge fan of the serated blade. I does a very poor job of cutting small rope, it is more difficult to sharpen IMO, and I have found that a sharp plain edge cuts large rope (5/16 and bigger) faster and cleaner than the serrated edge. Plus you just can't whittle with a serrated edge <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

Hello Knifenerd, Welcome aboard the Spyderco Forums! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> Interesting observation on the serrations! <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> They are better matter seperators when it comes to belts and ropes. Would you consider a plain-edged as well?
