Why doesn't spyderco make more black blade models, especially in SE models? I've seen a few in PE models not sure I've ever seen one in a SE model. You figure it is a little more protection, looks cooler, and draws less attention. I have a BM 905 in their black blade and it has held up well and I know Sal and the crew wouldn't do any in black if they didn't have the durability we would expect from a :spyder:
So whaddya say? I would like to see more black blades

Aloha Firespec35!
I have a delica SE OLD FRN style in black. My co-worker carried and used his SE Endura in black, and that coat seemed to handle quite well.
Now, I have a SPOT in black. "Attacked" a few empty boxes and the tip area is already worn out. This was just from a FEW diagonal slahes...It's like the paint they use for their blk clips...
Now, my Ontario RTAK and this lil' POS Tops Chico have a very durable almost baked on coat. THAT stuff doesn't/hasn't come off!!! I almost leveled a good part of my forest with that RTAK, and the coat is still there!!! IF :spyder: would apply this type of coat on their blades, I might get a few. I know there's a lot involved as far as the coat "sticking" to certain steels. Like, my RTAK is 1095, so I dunno how well VG10 would "take" with a coat.
God bless and stay safe! ;)

My first impression to that question is "Why?" It's just something else to wear out and increase the price point of the knife. After moderate use, I find they usually look like crap. I actually go out of my way to avoid buying coated blades.
It's not like I need to be sneaking along the Mekong Delta in the dark and hoping the Viet Cong don't see a glint of light from my knife blade.

I also prefer to stay away from coated blades.
They sure look good but it will eventually wear out and then it looks odd. I don't really see a need for it in my EDC knife but it's nice that the Military is still available in black for those who need it!

Hey guys!!!
Yeah, it's funny that this came up. I just spoke with the Deacon on his take one coated blades. I too, stay away from them, but the ones I mentioned earlier have withstood a lot and are still black! LOL! They didn't "zebra" out on me yet.
Hey zrexxer, was that my CBR9 that just passed ya!? KIDDING! :D
God bless!

Oh yes the coated blades do indeed have their place in the Market. What I do want in that arena would be to bring back that old super Titanium Nitride coating that Buck used on some of their hunting knives which actually acted as part of the cutting edge. Also the coating that the "BODYCOTE" company has come up with is a very superior type coating. That coating consists of Boron Carbide which would not come off like Jimmy Dean fears it will. Those coatings have to be done right for sure. Check out BODYCOTE they really do a great job. :spyder: ;)
