I've never used a strop so a few silly questions:

Do I need one? I use a 204 and have UF stones coming

Where do I get one?

What features, length, width do I look for?

How do I use and maintain it?

Hey Buddy!

Boy...you ARE slo-mo...no strop yet?! KIDDING! :D

I use the leather "sheath" that my Pro-File set came in to strop my blades. You don't NEED one, but i have noticed that stropping helps remove that burr.

I will ask King Of Mars about the place he got his strop at, but by the time I get all the info, I am quite sure some other :spyder: friend will answer your "needs".

Take care bro and God bless! ;)

I use a leather strop made out of chap leather, it is glued to a piece of wood, that has green rouge impregnated into it. A local knifemaker here made it for me, works quite well for removing the burr and putting that finished razor edge.

If you are interested in this let me know he will sell it for $15. He includes instructions of how he made it, how to use it and how to maintain it to last forever.

I actually found the strop on the net.

although the ones in store are a darker green.

Dude! I think that's the one I was talking about! K.O.M. called it the "Toxic Strop"! :D Hey, as long as it works!

God bless! ;)

Aloha Daywalker and Severedthumbs! Thanks for your input!

That Toxic Strop looks like the ticket. I was thinking about using an old belt and jewelers' rouge. Is it better to use a mounted piece of leather like the one y'all suggest than a flexible strap? Also, I read previous advice regarding stropping of serrations using a leather shoelace and jewelers' rouge.

I like it mounted on wood better, it makes it easier to apply a little pressure. I know it looks toxic green in the pic but all the ones I have seen are a forest green. As far as serrations, I treat them like a chisel grind, I just strop the back side. I am no expert in serrations but that is how I do it and it has worked well for me.

Aloha Spyderknut!

I do like how severedthumbs does his SE. Just the backside, and sometimes an occasional "what the heck" strop frontside. It works well...

I have used an old leather belt attached to a nail in the shed wall, and do the "barber strop"...that worked not as good though, as there was some kinda treatment used on the belt. My Pro-File sheath is just a soft leather sheath, very simple, and I use it with the stones inside as a strop...does the job!

God bless my slo-mo bro! :D
