This is my very objective opinion, refering to edge holding, sharpness, rust resistance and toughness:

1 VG-10

2 ATS-34 (!!)

3 440V

4 ATS 55

5 AUS 10

6 GIN-1

7 AUS 8

8 MBS 26

9 AUS 6

I´m sure you´ve all your own preferences. Feel free to express those...

There is only one for me VG-10 after you use it all others seem so so.

I agree that VG-10 should be at the top of the list.

I agree about the VG10 and I am glad to see more people experiencing the pleasure of owning and using this steel.

Well, I know that ATS-34 and AUS-10 [equivilant to 440C] are really good steels

Howdy
I'm a scuba diver in salt water looking for a good knife that will cut ! underwater. The knives in dive stores are 320/420 SS and are suitable for prybars not knives. Local salespeople don't want to talk about steel type. Can anyone suggest a good steel that holds a good edge, can be sharpened and is ok for rust. reply to this forum or email me at azevr@rb1.swrcb.ca.gov
