View Full Version : What resolution do you run your monitor at?

Am I that far "behind the curve"? I normally run both my home (19") and work (21") monitors at 1024 X 768. Anything higher and I can't read text without leaving noseprints on the screen. I do have to drop the 21" at work back to 800 X 600 to test how the software I'm writing will look on the users machines. Our "standard" is that data input and data retrieval screens should display 800 X 600 without requiring horizontal scrolling or vertical scrolling. Web pages can require vertical scrolling, but not horizontal at that same resolution. Up to two years ago we were still developing screens to work at 640 X 480 without requiring scrolling.
More and more as I surf the net, and especially on the forums I'm finding posts, web pages, and entire websites that would require much higher resolution in order to be readable without horizontal scrolling. So I'm beginning to wonder if my equipment is hopelessly outdated, if I really need to put my other interests on hold for a bit and spring for a 30" widescreen flat panel. What do you folks run? Or am I the only one that hates to have to scroll horizontally, especially to read text?
my 17" monitor went up into flames and smoke about half a year ago, so i had to get a replacement cheap somewhere.
the 17" monitor that got burned out i always had at a comfortable 1024x768.
the crappy thing i'm looking at right now is a 15" at 800x600.......*sigh*. :(

Laptop (running Ubuntu Linux!) screen: 1280x800. A lot better than the 800x600 I used untill recently.

800x600
I am looking on  it whole day, need to see it good. Lazy for wearing glasses  , they are in my bag :p
I run my monitor at 1024x768. I just checked the statistics of my webpage and found out that ~70 % out of ~5700 visitors used the same resolution, ~14 % used 800x600 and the rest other resolutions.
Also more than 60 % of my visitors used IE 6.0 and ~15 % still IE 5.5 and the rest other browsers.
I also often wondered for which resolutions some pages might be optimized
Cheers, Rob

usually 1024x768 is the standard. there's also a few webpages that adjust to your resolution-settings automatically. i don't know how they do that, but i like it.

:D
i run my 17" at 1024x768... but my computer is an antique, don't feel like buying a new one yet :p

I run at 1280x1024 on a 19" LCD. Have you tried using large fonts or extra-large fonts in your display properties? This might help the readability. Also browsers like Firefox have a very nice interface for changing font sizes while surfing.

I have a 17" Samsung flat screen, and run at 1024 x 768. Any higher and I can't see the Icons or letters, in spite of wearing glasses !

1280x1024 on my box with dual 17" panels.
1280x854 on my notebook
I think we're designing all of our web pages for 1024x768

Dell Flat panel 17" 1280x1024, single screen. Requested a dual screen setup but got turned down. The user interface on our software requires 1280x1024 as a minimum.
