Folks, does anyone here know...
Was there one of these variations produced? It looks as though there must have been, from the appearance of a knife I saw on ebay. It looks really nice! I would much prefer this to the shiny finish I've seen before. If I were able to get ahold of one of these it might even replace in my imagination the hollow ground, serrated G-10 Police model I've been looking for...Jeff/1911.

I was just reading over in Bladeforums about someone who found their old Police model in GIN-1 steel to be the sharpest knife they'd ever owned. Anybody else have this experience? Is a Police model in GIN-1 something I should look for before I buy a currently produced one in ATS-55? Is it more desirable than the new one? Jeff/1911.
Hi Jeff. The stainless Police model has always been finished with a Skotch Brite matte finish.
Gin I is a good steel. ATS has the advantage of edge retention. Both will get about the same "sharpness"

Sal,
Thank you for the response re: the finish on the Police model. I saw a picture on one on ebay that appears to have a distinctly duller finish - here:

Anyway, I have a serrated, s/s Police model on order from my local dealer. And, I just picked up my diamond engraved revision Military plain edge today.
Wow!
It's everything I've heard said about it and a MUCH more. A beautiful design. Congratulation to you and your excellent people. Thanks for a great, great knife.
Which edge style Military is the one you carry, if you don't mind my asking?
