I dropped by my local Le Baron on the way home from work today just to look around because it was a bloody awful week at the office, and I needed to "come down". To my complete surprise, Le Baron had Cocobolo Kopas in stock for CAN $138 and change  . They are not listed in their on-line catalogue, but they have them and the price in CAN $ is not bad either. I almost weakened, but I'm going to holdout for a KOPA in other than Cocobolo. Instead, I left with an ATR SS in PE :D . (Perhaps it's a good thing that they didn't have a Ti ATR or I would have weakened further.)

Mariner, what did they want for the ATR SS PE?????If you don't mind me asking:)It was CAN $123.94. Except for having supper and walking the dog, I've hardly stopped playing with it. Very smooth.

If you ask them, they will special-order a Spyderedge A.T.R. for the same price.

They said they could special-order some other Spydercos they did not have in stock, but the prices for those were not as good. (example: Yojimbo for $180 canadian plus taxes) Still might be worth it though, because they will deal with the canada customs gestapo.

I find it odd that the customs facility where all our Spydercos get detained is right there in Mississauga, yet there are at least 2 stores in Mississauga that are openly selling Spydercos.

take care...

take care...Actually, for the ATR, I prefer PE to SE, but thanks for the info. A while back, I asked the LeBaron "knife guy" at the Woodbine store (Markham) about ordering me a Paramilitary, Spur and Caly Jr., none of which they carry. His response of "Well, I suppose that we could the next time that we place an order" kind of put me off. So, I bought all three from S&R knives in the Woodbine Mall on Rexdale :D . I refuse to risk possible seizure by Customs associated with ordering from a US supplier.

I went the the Mississauga LeBaron...maybe I lucked out because they were just about to place an order or something, but I had the impression I could order at any time.

"S and R" is good too...I got a good deal on the Warren Thomas Karambit there...Le Baron told me "no Karambit, no balisong"...it remains to be seen if "S and R" can get the szabofly (!)

...it remains to be seen if "S and R" can get the szabofly (!)I will be kinda surprised if they can, but Shaun at S&R keeps telling me that he can get me anything I want.

I was a little shocked too because I went to "Le Baron" recently and they had received a Manix, a Scorpius and other cool stuff at a good price. If only I weren't so poor...

Hi JD. Unfortunately, they only carry the Manix in CE, but you're right, they sell it for a great price :) . When I was your age, I was a poor, struggling university student as well. Sucks majorly don't it :( , but they're great years in one's life. Never mind, the being poor part is a temporary situation that will quickly pass, and there will be even more :spyder: to acquire by then :D .

I would think that LeBaron would order you a plainedge Manix for the same price if you asked 'em real nicely...

I would think that LeBaron would order you a plainedge Manix for the same price if you asked 'em real nicely...You're probably right, and I may do that; however, I really do love this ATR SS that I picked up last Friday, and I'm seriously considering acquiring the Ti ATR as my next :spyder: .

No doubt that the Ti ATR would rock the house...personally I was deterred by the price, and the fact that there is a weight difference of only 15 grams, (according to Spyderco's own product descriptions) so it's like twice the price of the SS to shave 15 g, or just 10% of the knife's weight. I beleive the SS version has extra weight-reducing holes in the handle.

On the other hand, no one could have too many of these babies.

I agree, the Ti ATR is tempting but i opted to buy a Manix PE this week, waiting impatiently to get it. Should be here by the weekend im hoping.

Thanks Mariner. Tank is a really great dog.. He actually carries a spydie in his pack when were doing a long hike. He's got a Delica with a Green FRN and black blade..

Good choice Tank. The Manix is a great folder .... a tad on the large side for EDC IMO but many forumites do EDC the Manix (especially the boys from Texas :D ). Neither the Manix nor the Ti ATR is carried by either of my local knife emporiums, so I'm thinking that I may just as well bite the bullet and order them both at the same time. It will likely take several weeks to get them. By the way, I did intoduce the ATR SS to my Sharpmaker and, after finishing off with the ultrafine ceramic rods, it is unbelieveably scary. It's likely just my imagination, but I swear that I can get VG10 sharper than I can get S30V.

I could tell Tank was a great dog just from the picture. Speaking of dogs, my dog "Lexus" (the wife said she wanted a Lexus, so ... :D ) is currently nagging me for her evening walk in the field. She has yet to carry a :spyder: , but maybe this Summer at the cottage :) .

I have yet to put the ATRss on the sharpmaker but now ya got me wanting to do it. That ultra fine to finish sure is amazing. I was able to get my endura that sharp, Tip caught me when i was closing and didnt even feel it cut me but noticed the blood dripping on the floor.
What kind of dog is Lexus?

Go for it Tank. Like mine, your ATR SS was likely good and sharp when it came out of the box. I have yet to buy a :spyder: that wasn't. But, after an hour or so with the Sharpmaker, mine has now got a noticeably superior edge on it. Just as an aside, a few weeks back, I kinda got carried away and bought 5 knives at once  .... 3 :spyder: , a BM and a Kershaw. The box containing the Kershaw was the only one that contained a printed warning stating how sharp the blade was. Turns out the Kershaw was the least sharp of the lot, even less sharp than the BM. What a hoot.

I've lost track of the number of times that a blade has bit me. You play with them long enough and, sooner or later, s**t happens. Last time, it was carrying my Paramillie from the sink in which I had washed it over to the kitchen table for the blow dry. Dropped the darn think and instinctively tried to retrieve it before it hit the floor. Lost a chunk of my little finger on that one. I married a nurse so I always get excellent medical attention :D .

According to the folks from whom we acquired Lexus, her mother was a Pitbull and her father was a Beagle. She's intensely loyal and has a great disposition ... super with my two grand children who live with us. Walks take forever because she picks up a scent and proceeds to follow it.

Sorry for rambling.

Hey, mariner...

I really hope that the idiotic breed-ban does not affect your pooch too much. My dog is my best friend and if she were to have her freedom taken away I think I just might have take her and leave this province alltogether, and I really like this province.

I guess it's not that different from the various knife-bans that we contend with...they don't actually "work"; are easy to get around; and will only negatively affect good people (and good dogs)

take care...

Well, I certainly don't intend to do anything differently because of this politically-motivated breed ban. It's such a crock  . I plan to move out of this crazy city next year when I retire, but hopefully remain in Ontario. It seems to be less of an issue outside of the major urban centres.

They talk about breed bans in the US all the time but fortunatly they never pass. Its not the breed its the people who own them that create the problems in most cases. Lack of or negative training...
