I was thinking about maching a pair of titanium scales baced off of the G-10 ones that come on the Military. can the knives scales come off with out affecting the mechinzem etc. Maybe i should machine them and let see if the spyderco factory will put them on?

FTK,

I think the problem will be machining the recess for the "nested" liner. Sal has commented previously on how accurately that needs to be done and I assume it's done by a computer controlled mill. Taking the scales off may also affect the setting of the eccentric pivot and this needs a special tool to reset it.

Don't worry that the world might end tomorrow, in Australia it's tomorrow already.

Thanks Clay -- I thought that nesting might be an issue. What if you drilled out the wanger rivets?

Hi FTK. a Titan Mil would be a nice piece. Milling the pocket for the nested liner would be difficult though, as mentioned. We use CNC's. The liner is a press fit.

I guess the simplest solution would be to move to an integral compression lock ti military, right? <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

thanks for all the in put. i have made a patten from the scales of a tim wegner as an expeament cut them out with a cnc laser mill this will be an exparement in make knife handles as well as for the new machine and the exparmental program that scans the element to be replicated. in this case the G-10 scales.. i might try and use a hemispirical mill and add some indentions allong the scale to add grip without the sand paper affect on ones pants of cross hatching. the wengers scales i'm guessing are much simpler and no press fitting, good for exparement one. i think the military would look good in titanium. thanks again for all the good ideas.
