Moon, I am so sorry to hear that. The ALCS loss (aka-the greatest comeback in the history of American sports) must have been the worst day of your life, I myself would still be asking "what went so wrong". But you are a fellow :spyder: ie nut so you can't be so bad ;) . You just have poor taste in baseball teams :) . Better luck next year, or the year after that, or the year after that.

Your right Moon, they are. No one who hasn't lived in New York or Boston can even come close to knowing what we are talking about unless they experience it first hand. Pretty intense. So any long distance nation residents, put a trip to Fenway when the Yanks are in town or Yankee Stadium when the Sox are there on your vacation agenda and hold on :D

I plan on some baseball thread in OT during the season, come by any time Moon. I'll talk baseball and trash with you but it will be in fun. No Sox fan respects the Yanks more than me.

I'm a HUGE Red Sox fan!!!! I was born into it, my father being a Red Sox fan all his life. Christmas this year was one giant Red Sox merchandise campaign. I don't think a single present was opened that didn't have a Red Sox logo somewhere on it.

I even hopped a bus to Boston last fall, to see the rolling rally. I was one of the best times of my life.

Being a Red Sox fan, and living in New York State, has been quite a challenge. Darn Yankee fans everywhere you look. But I have noticed far more Red Sox caps being worn than in previous years.

Hey Buzzbait, glad you found us. I hear you on all accounts. Life can be a challenge sometimes. I had an old boss once who was Don Mattingly's cousin by marriage. I kept stealing his little NY trinkets off his desk, when we got laid off, I gave him back about 75 lbs. of his "stuff".

This Chrismas, my sister gave me a mini world series trophy. Never thought I'd have one in my lifetime. A prized gift.

I was at the rally too. How cool was that. Now that Pedro is a Met, I hope he has permanent damage from getting clocked with that ball. :D :D

Take care, see you around I hope.

What started out as a silly joke has turned into a curse of some sort. But I am probably going to watch the game tonight now. It will be the first baseball game I watched since Randy "BIG UNIT" Johnson led the Arizona Diamondbacks to victory over that disease named Marrinera and his Yankees in the 2001 World Series. What's tremendously funny about it is the fact that I plain don't give a damned period. But I don't care much about the Boston Red Necks ( Oh I'm sorry I meant Sox) either :D :D . Well I just got home and check the baseball score and see that Boston beat Mr. Steinbrenner's band of thugs ;) :spyder: . Well I guess all that platter chatter was just for fun & games after all. NO WATANSON I am no fan of those Yankee scum either. Way back when I was a serious baseball fan living here in Kansas City our Royals seem to always get pounded by the bums from the BRonx. But in October of 1980 I saw my guy George Brett put the fat part of his bat on one of GOOSE Gossage's fast balls and hit one of the longest home runs in Yankee stadium history  . Then they went on to the World Series and got smashed by Pete Rose's ( best ball player of our time) Philadelphia Phillies :( . Actually when Pete Rose, Joe Morgan, Johnny Bench and the rest of the Big RED Machine played that was baseball at it's finest :) . These guys now-a-days are a bunch of billion dollar cry babies as far as I am concerned. Nobody in this day and age plays like Pete Rose did. But like I said I did tune into the last game of the World Series in 2001 and saw Randy Johnson beat the crap of the Bronx bums which made me happy for about an hour or so. I haven't watched a baseball game since. With our wonderful country becoming a POLICE STATE and our economy going to hell in a handbasket I just can't get too serious about sports and movies anymore. But it was funny none the less. WEll I got a good laugh about it anyway. Back to the cutlery with the hole in the blade for this guy :D

Hey JD,
My second favorite player ever after Carlton Fisk is Pete Rose  , best hitter ever and played like a demon. Man it is a cryin shame he is denied entrance in the Hall! I mean some players have snorted the GDP of Liberia up their noses, while others are confirmed wife beaters and some break records juiced on steroids!!! The powers to be seemed convinced Pete is the real problem with baseball. Yeah he bet on some baseball games, improper behavoir yes, :o reason to ban the all time hits champ FOR LIFE? NO! George Brett, great hitter iirc closest to come to hitting 400 since Ted Williams, great all around player and a powerhouse in his day. Baseball is a great distraction for me from all the things wrong with this world. I need a little bread and circuses ever once in a while :D
Cheers, Rob

Carlton Fisk, cool. I was at his 1st Fenway game as a Red Sox. Nomar too. People who I like to watch, Vinny Castilla (nice man, met him at Fenway when he was with Tampa), Pedro, A Rod, Jeter, Ryne Sandberg was a favorite, Don Mattingly too. As a kid, my dad would take me to see the Yanks or Baltimore when they came in. My hero then wasn't a RS but Boog Powell. Anyone remember him? 1st base, Baltimore. A couple of years ago I went to Baltimore for a Oriole/Yanks game (Rocket vs. Ponson) and met Boog. He sells hot dogs and ribs at Camden Yards now. He was laughing when I talked about that.
Another highlight was I met Ted Williams, Walt Dropo, and Frank Malzone at the grand opening of a car dealership here in Mass. I was young, maybe 8 or 9. We stood in line for hours, got an autographed ball of all 3 and went home and played with it. None of them seemed to glad to be there either.

More memories later. If ya twist my arm, I'll give my take on Rose. Gotta go.

JD, that Green Monster pic is dedicated to you. :) I had to go into the archives deep but thats April 11, 2002. KC was in. It's not Brett, I know, but if you look close you might make out the pine tar in the lower left. :D

JD Spydo

Well Greencobra George Brett retired in about 1992 or maybe 93 but I do think it was 92. So the only thing he would have been doing in 02 would have been watching the game. Actually the Royals and The Red Necks ( whoops! I did it again I meant Sox :D) really didn't have as bitter of a rivalry as did them and the Yankees. The most bitter rivalry the Royals had were the old Oakland As. Because the As were in in KC at one time. The old owner Charley Finley was even hated worse that Chairman ( Mao Tse) Steinbrenner. Actually Carl YAZ and Brett were pretty good buddies and used to do interviews together. Ok you got a C in History. :D

Oh one other minor detail. During that era I seem to remember the Royals making it to the playoffs and World Series much more than the Beantown Boys. BOston had their chance in 1975 but Pete Rose, Joe Morgan, Johnny Bench taught them a hard lesson. I saw that World Series when I was very young and still think it was about the most memorable one I can remember. :D :D

That's what so incredibly funny about all of this is the fact that I don't even give a hoot  . I am really even wondering if all of these sports aren't just rigged to make a bunch of big time gamblers rich? On the other hand it astonishes me as to how many adults I meet that believe that Professional Wrestling is real :o . How many billions are these guys going to make before there ain't even enough money in the Federal Reserve system to even pay them :p . I guess the bottom line to all of this is that it's all nothing but entertainment. If you can believe this: There are even a lot of adults that even think that their vote counts when all of the computers and systems are totally rigged  . Oh well! What do I know. I still even watch those Pathetic Kansas City Chiefs every season dreaming of the days of Lenny Dawson. Ok I guess I will go get my old copy of "Polyanna" and learn about life :D Back to the blades with the holes for this guy. It's me, It's me Ol' JD :spyder: "O :spyder:

For all you closet BB fans....

Sox and Yanks took a tumble yesterday. Roy Haladay pitched a good game for the Jays. This guy is so overlooked sometimes, in the shadow of Pedro, Johnson, Clemens, and now Carl Pavano. The Sox traded Pavano for Pedro if any remembers that.

How about the Wash. Nationals? Suprise there. One of my favorite players to watch, Vinny Castilla, not to be confused with Vinny77, is there via another expansion draft. Watched him play for Colorado when I lived there a while ago. '95 Rockies, only team in BB history to have 4, 40 HR hitters on a team in the same season. Castilla, Walker, Bichette, and Galaraga. And, 1st expansion team to make the playoffs the quickest since their inception. To jog memories, they won a wild card berth. Lost to Atlanta in the first go round.

Sal, ever get to Coors?

Yeah buddy!!!! there was a time back in the mid 70s that Pete Rose, Johnny Bench & company literally ruled the ball diamond with a "rod of iron". These guys were so good and played with so much heart and guts that some of these new guys just make me scratch my head. They even beat the Yankees 4 straight in the world series of 1976. They had a "stopper" named Clay Carroll who nobody could hit off of. These KC Royals in that same period blew so many chances before they ever got it right. I think that between George Brett and a pretty decent pitching staff is all that got them there. Why don't these phony "self righteous" idiots just go ahead and forgive Pete Rose and let him into the Hall of Fame where he belongs. What he did ain't even a pimple compared to what a lot of our crooked Presidents have done. Oh well just a thought for the day. From the wild thought processes of JD Spydo :D

You fossil, you JD :D

Ya won't get an argument out of me on anything you said but as for Pete...
He bet on baseball.
He lied about it.
Got caught.
Changed his tune.
Do I think he paid his debt, yes, many times over but I'll tell what, they let him in now you got to look at others. Shoeless Joe comes to mind and I don't think MLB wants to open that can of tuna.

It is pathetic to see him set up in Cooperstown selling autographs. A friend just came back from Las Vegas, he was there doing it on a street corner. Very sad for a great player.

I get your point JD, what Clinton did under the desk was not sex and Rose not betting on his own team to loose was not betting on baseball.

Yeah the Pete Roses and Mickey Mantles not to mention Roberto Clemente are long gone but will never be equaled by the billionaire crybabies of this present era. Even in basketball these guys now a days couldn't even wear Wilt Chamberlin's jock strap  . Time for Red Sox Roundup.

Sox are in sole posession of 1st in the AL East. As my fellow nationites (and forumites) from Texas are saying, YEEEEE HAAAAAAA! Yeah, yeah, it's only the end of April but we've suffered enough so any time we're in first is a good time, period.

The boys shut down the O's batters two nights in a row, you closet fans know that's somthing, the way they been hitting. Good thing it was only a 2 game series.

Yankee watch...they won too, still 6 out. Torre was in town interviewing for the visiting team club house mgr job, anticipating his removal no doubt.

There's so many of you pounding on the keyboard to express your support for the men of red socks that the server is going to shut down.

BTW Sal, I'm sorry to say those Rockies need a jump start. Bring back Castilla!

The only good news is the Yankees lost 2 in a row but so did the Sox. OK, fine, sole possession of 1st for a day is good too. Curts not at his best. Casey Fossum got the win for the Rays. For you trivia buffs, who was part of the deal to Arizona in trade for Curt?

I like to dwell on the Yanks in last in the AL East. Haven't seen that too many times in my lifetime. Uncle George's BP must be up a bit. :D

Oh no, Yankees still in the basement of Al east dispite a win behind the Big Eunich, he he he he ha ha ha. I am truly blessed to see the Sox win the Series and the Yanks sweeping out the cellar in my lifetime.

Lot of activity down in Tampa if you missed the game. Grand Slams, multiple HR's, fights, balks. Almost like roller derby.

I was thinking the other day, how many Grand Slams and Balks we had so far. That's AL & NL combined. A lot, and the season just started.

I was at a game once in Denver, the Blue Jays were in, and I just said to my buddy before the game I never saw a Grand Slam in person. That day 3 were hit. Ended up being in the top 5, I believe, of highest score total in a game, wasn't #1 though, in BB history. I'll have to look it up.

Don't give up on the Rockies, Sal. They'll turn it around.

Baltimore is a good hitting club, hard to stop. Last night they pulled it off in late innings, MT hit that 2 run shot.

How do you spell respect now? P-E-D-R-O. I'm on that warm and fuzzy rollercoaster of being a Sox fan. My opinion, pretty weak pitching in the starting rotation, we miss the 1-2 punch of Shilling & Pedro.

I have chest pains already and we're not out of April yet.

Let me put on my oxygen before I start. My god, 3 losses in a row. A positive...playing .500 ball, barely. Pretty soon Sox and Yanks will be slapping themselves silly in the cellar. HEY YOJIMBO, PLEASE SPIN THAT WHEEL FASTER, PLEEEEASE.

Park pitched well for Texas. And Wakefield was Wakefield. He's either on or not. Last night, not.

How about that match up with Clemens and Maddux. First time in 18-19 years two 300 game winners faced each other. Pretty exciting. Just in case some of you don't know, Maddux took the win.

Big Eunich too another loss against Haladay. What I say about Haladay a while back. Anyone remember? Very much lost in the shadows and underrated.

I want everyone who reads this to think Red Sox for one second. We need good karma too. Red Sox, Rex Sox, Red Sox, Red Sox, Go Sox, Go Sox, Go Sox
Goooooooo Sooooooox

And seriously now, any you guys from France, Canada (Go Jays), The Netherlands and anyone else... Oh yeah, and S. Africa, how do you say Red Sox in your native language? I need to get some serious, good, universal thoughts going here. (and you wise guys from South Philly, I know how you say it.)

Hmmm, just tossing it out there but.....nahhhh......you don't suppose the Bombers are all coming down off the juice? Kinda like what Giambi did last year. Messes the mind as well as body. They make too many bonehead plays and errors and I think we all know these guys are better than that.

Yanks got some injuries in the pitching dept. Big Eunich is down and Wright as well I believe. Brown is lost in Iowa somewhere, on the mound in his own field of dreams. Still, if all they got to work with is Mussina and Pavano, shoot, I'd take those odds. The pen is finding it's way but they're lost right now. Rivera, he better pick it up a notch or BAM. 2 blown saves already?
Matsui is asleep, A Fraud is dazed and confused on defence but swinging, Jeter will always be Jeter, Bernie's signing up for AARP.

They should make Luis Sojo a player/coach. Anyone remember him? Me and some buddies would all make jokes on him, you never saw the guy until October, right? He slept on the bench all season, we'd wonder what happened to the guy and come October, the call would come, someone would go to the end of the bench, wake him up, and the next thing you know, he'd make something happen. Killed the Sox many times that way.

Anyway, as a long time Sox fan, it does fell weird that the team we are chasing now is Baltimore. Go O's! Go Sox! Yankee's Suck!

Article in the local paper talking about the Yanks upcoming 9 day road trip. Said it's what they need, get out from under the pressure of the home crowd and relax on the field. Hope they don't relax too much, I still want them on the cellar stairs at the break. :D

Me, I'm baseballed out with the doubleheader today. Miller did OK after coming off rehab but took the loss in the second game. That kid, Merideth, took a beating. That's what you need in your ML debut, come in with a man on, give up 2 walks, them wham. See ya! GS.

How about those Sox? Second walk off HR in 2 games! You maybe see that 1 - 2 times a year, never mind B to B. As much as I love this team I see no fundamental baseball being played here. Edgar Renteria and Mark Bellhorn show the only signs of it in the infield. And Bellhorn couldn't hit a ball off a tee so we know why he's here. Whatever it takes at the moment I guess. Still happy with the pitching staff considering 1 & 2 are down. Manny got to wake up at the plate but he don't listen to me when I try to talk hitting.

Whoa, go Yanks, huh. George must have stuck the poker up their asmuths. Would have liked to have been the fly on that wall :). How about Tino Martinez, on fire. Jason, get the resume updated. Too bad you got that meaty contract, you'll never play regular again. With that money, you don't have to.

This never meant to be a Sox/Yanks thread but the 100+ games in the way until September is just a warm up for the play offs with, you guessed it, Boston & NY.

KC is heading down into BB nothingness. Bud wants to move them to a girls slow pitch softball league sometime soon.

Matt Clement went 9 against the Braves yesterday. First game I've seen in a while, job search and interviews taking up huge amount of time.

Clement, SO 7, walked 0 and had one shakey inning. That was a bargain off season pick-up. I think he makes 1.6M so in this day of one win costs 500K, 2 more and he's paid for. :D

Yanks on track again. Coming up is Bloodsport II, Yanks and Sox. Yanks have a good series then and we have major position change in the standings.

Damons in a mini slump but Manny was strong yesterday, 3 for 5 w/1 HR, Nixon didn't do much for the Braves series. Here's hoping.

Sorry, haven't kept up with my thread here for all you closet Nationites. Still dinking around with the job situation soooo, gotta get to bed early, no watching the games till 10 - 11 PM for a while.

Sox are in the Bronx this weekend. The Unich vs. Wakefield tonight. God, we've lost what, 8 of the last 10? The only salvation is Unich is unsteady on his feet now. Did you ever think that day would come? Randy's never had a bad day in his career until he got to NY, but him and A-Quack aren't true Yankees. LOL

Has anyone heard Imus lately. Really dumping on A-Nuts in the mornings. Oh, you gotta love it. This morning he started on Unich. We'll see if Randy can get on track.

Sox brought up Yank retread Olerude yesterday. Is that going to turn things around? Who knows.

Whoa, anybody see that truck coming?

Gary Sheffield? Come on. Robinson what-ever-your-last-name-is, come on.

Well I wouldn't say Big Eunich was on the money, but enough. A tad wild at times, gave up a few walks but was hitting 96 and touched 97.

A human interest story here, I met him once in Kenmore Sq (that's near Fenway for you out of towners) before a game when he was with the Mariners. I always went early to hang out and this day it was raining. I'm waiting to cross the street and a car splashed me and the guy beside me. So were both swearing and cussing and I turn and I'm staring into this guys chest. I'm 6'2". He's in a suit with trenchcoat, long hair and I didn't recognise him. We chatted on the corner for a while, small talk like if we thought they would play the game etc., the light changed, we crossed and walked to Fenway together, I went into a bar (of course the Cask and Flagon) he continued down the street. The doorman asks if I was a friend of his. I said who? Randy Johnson, the guy you were with, he said. Joke was on me, never knew it was him. I was told he walked to Fenway from the hotel when he was in town.

Back to the game. Manny is not sharp, don't know what's up with that but if I knew I'd be working for the Sox. Edgars on a tear on the road but can't hit at home. Wakefield a bit wild himself, more than usual but the pen gave it away with the lucky shot. 12 weeks till we see Schilling? Oh my. Wells on Sunday? Oh no.

But it all came down to A-Money. When he's hot...you know the rest. The guys on fire now and peaking with the Sox series is baaad!

I won't concede but I can always put in my Sox highlight tape from last year if things really go south.

17-1 on 26 hits. Yankee Slayers!

Edgar Renteria, still blistering hot on the road, sac bunt, 2 singles, and a Grand Slam. Payton and Nixon homered along with Renretia's GS in the 4th for a 7 run inning against Quantrill. Whoa, save some guys, for Sunday night.
Clement ran his record to 6-0, went 6+ shutout innnings. This guy is doing better than I certainly figured he'd do.

For the Yanks, Pavano couldn't get out past the 4th. Remember, his claim to fame is he gave up the last HR to McGuire in the 72 HR season. A-Rod is still pounding away, Bernie Williams had a good day at DH but they couldn't get it done.

Life is wonderful at times. Lets hope tomorrow is just as good. Don't ya just love this game? Grown men can act like little boys for three hours. America is wonderful. GO SOX

Ahhh, we did it again! Wells spanked those Yanks to no end. Myself, and everyone else in the nation are shocked by his performance. 8 1/3 innings too! If ya say you're not, ya lying! Maybe we're even more shocked at Mussina.

Edgar Renteria's still En Fuego, big time. This kids hot, ya think. His BA is up 20 - 30 pct. points on this road trip. Ortiz is blasting monster shots, one in straight away center, 460'+? and another into the third deck. Manny is bleeding 'em with singles but at least he's hitting.

Kelly Shoppack (sp) had his major league start. SO swinging and ground outs but did a good job behind the plate. Wells pretty much thows what he wants most times so there was no conflict.

OK, so we picked up ground with the Yanks, Baltimore had a crappy series with Detroit so we're in second place in the east, 3 behind. Yanks 3 1/2 behind. Too close. We got to be in first by the All Star break.

Can I get a little chant going.....lets go Red Sox, lets go Red Sox, LETS GO RED SOX

Trust me I know what you are going through, I've been unemployed for the equivalent of one year over the past two and a half years, ever since I moved from NYC. Jobs in my profession just suck here in Putnam county NY. In NYC I could work 36hrs in three days, up here 36 hrs takes 5 days and that includes EVERY Saturday, sucks when you have a Wife and child at home. Since all the clinics are small one doctor practices and the vast majority of clients are so cheap and flighty my boss will stay late at night to fit everyone in. This means that my shift which is supposed to end at 7pm normally ends around 10pm and I told him when I started I wasn't interested in more/overtime hours. Well that went out the window the first week I was there. So keep at it, it will work out for you, I can feel it.

Hey Rob. I finally sat down last night to watch a game and give myself a break. Actually, flipped back and forth, Sox/Phils and Yanks/Mets. Where the Sox were sweet to watch, everything going right, with the Yanks, nothing went right. Ar one point, changed over just in time to see Bernie drop that fly. Oh man, never in my life..... Sad to see. Maybe now these guy won't take it for granted anymore, huh? Who's going first? Joe?

Pedro looked good, more relaxed than when he was here last year. I guess better to be top dog than one of many.

Yeah 1st. First time they had possesion since April what, 20th, 21st? Got to keep it through the AS break and have momentum carry them on out. Wow, whole ED turned upsidedown.

Wakefield, shutout ball thru 6? 7? I didn't think he had anything special last night, Phils let a lot go by looking but, they have a lot of hard throwers in the NL so maybe anything that slow baffled them.

It feels good to get back to watching the games regular.

Clement just got done retarding the Phils batters and pulled off a nice win, Manny popped a 400'+ dinger, several doubles hit today as well as a triple. Mantei plunked a batter and showed control problems and Foulke closed it out. Sox are playing like champions, playing some of the best, consistant, ball I've seen in my lifetime. They're 13 games over .500.

Baltimore was tied up last I heard. Need their loss to cement that lead going into the break. Got to come out of the break 1 1/2 up at least. We'll see.

Rob, I want to buy Auggie his 2nd world championship shirt. What do you think? I'd be funny if his first word was Papi. :D

Sox took the last game from the Phillies and swept the road trip. Both teams combined for 28 hits, Bellhorn, of all people, 3-4 with a HR, Manny hit a Slammer. Win or loose, this game was a good one. The Phils were behind 7-0 and 8-1 and managed to come back and tie it 8-8. If the O's loose, it cements a 2 1/2 game lead in first. Go Sox!

Attention, JD Spydo, if you know the where abouts of George Brett, we need someone to polish this, it's getting ratty.

JD Spydo
07-08-2005, 05:49 AM
George does a radio sports talk show here in the Kansas City area. I think you can get his show on the internet. George was quite a player when the Royals were a real team. That was back when I was a baseball fan. Today the sport has been reduced to a bunch of a whining crybabies chewing steriods and a lot of other substances like them  . Some of these guys could not even compare to what the "BIG RED MACHINE" did back in the 70s :o .

The only reason I even Like Randy Johnson is because he crushed the Yankees back in the 01 World Series. I just thought that was the funniest thing I had seen in a while. And he did it against that guy who's name sounds like a disease: Marinera Rivera or something like. But then he joins the Yankees. I can't figure that one at all except for $$$$. And that is another reason I long for the old days because these guys today have no loyalty at all. :(

But George Brett has a radio show on station WHB 810 am(not fm) and I think his show is on in the mornings. He played for the Royals all of his career and was good for KC. He even has a highway named after him if you can believe that. BAck when he played and Ewing Kauffman was the team's owner KC was the place to be. Now that disgusting Rip-Mart family owns the team and you guessed it: They run it just as cheap and disgusting as they do their stores. PEACE to you my friend Greencobra. I will stick to something constructive like knives with Spyders on them and playing with new toys of other varieties. :D

OK, back to business. Now that I can settle in and watch in earnest, we get a shortened game from rain last night.

Wells gives up 2, back to back. He left a lot of pitches hanging over and was wacked twice for it. On the other hand, Cabrera (sorry about the spelling), was his own worst enemy. The only sox run was wild pitched in, Bellhorn no less, who reached on a walk. He walked the bases loaded and got out of it. He'd SO the first two batters. then 3 walks, or put it in the dirt. Inconsistant. He throws hard though, 94 - 96 mph, and right handers can't hit him. Manny sat last night because of that. But second guessing this morning, I'd have left him in and took my chances. I think with Baltimore faltering now going into the second half, they thought....well, they thought wrong.

NO, No you totally misunderstand my last feedback. I was just simply making an observation about the deterioration of professional sports in general. I guess my analogy was set in baseball. But when you look at it closely the even the NBA has gone to pot since Jordan left the Bulls. Football is almost completely rigged with the draft and salary caps the way they are.

I used to like a lot of sports but they have all crumbled due to total corruption. Even pro boxing is nothing but a total cesspool in this day and age. I was a boxing fan for 25 years and I don't even know who is heavyweight champ at this point.

OH no I am not bitter. But I can see why you might be bitter. I remember the 1975 World Series. It was the Cinncinnati Reds against??? Well who was that other team??? OH YeaH!!!! Their opponent was the Boston Red Sox. NOW I remember. Yes I really actually remembered that one totally.
The Big REd MACHINE took the Sox in 7 games. IF it weren't for Louis Tiant the Sox may not have even won 1. OH how I remember that one :D One of the first bets I won actually. Now that would make me bitter if I was a sox fan.

Yes I do agree that Kansas City Sports has been reduced to Rip Mart but I can't be bitter with what I don't even participate in or care about. Other than that 01 series I haven't watched Baseball game in years. I think Brett retired in 92 and I watched about 2 Royals games since then. And the NFL is as rigged as a pinball machine full of magnets. I wonder if they have a sport called Spyderball. I do have a ball cap for that game :D

Even in 76 they beat Steinbrenner's Thugs ( I mean Yankees) 4 straight. With Johnny Bench hitting home runs at will. And Pete ROSE ( who should be in the Hall of Fame) was just beating them to pieces. I will admit that the Sox didn't die easy though. As a matter of fact I heard a guy on ESPN say that was one of the top 5 World Series of all time. Louis Tiant truly was a genius of a pitcher. Too bad he wasn't with the REDS :D

They played mostly day games, we were an hour behind, so it worked out well while I worked 2nd shift. I will get to Wrigley some day.

BTW, I did go see them in spring training several times at Hohocam I think it was, in Tempe Az I think. A big thrill was seeing Harry Cary. And saw them a lot at Coors when they came in. Sandberg, Grace, Sosa etc.

For a Boston boy, I have a huge Ryne Sandberg card collection. And now you have Nomar, but he's broken. I wouldn't watch the Sox for over six weeks because of that trade. Now you got me ripped on another subject. Can you tell I like Baseball?

I'm laughing at your Red Sox Sucks line. In Fenway, that's reserved for the Yankees. It doesn't matter who's in, you'll get the Yankees Suck chant. Your little brothers tee ball team would be playing and all you hear is Yankees Suck. lol In NY, it would be un-original to chant Sox Suck so we get waves of 1918 chanted at us. Although, it's been rather quiet in the Bronx as of late.

Sox still on track last night, beating the O's 7 - 2. Damon, 4 for 5, Manny leads the league in RBI. Arroyo went deep into the game, 7 2/3 innings. Ponson started for Baltimore, got whacked around and lost, i believe, his last 5 outings. I should say 4. One start was a ND.

Rafael Palmeiro needs to be mentioned. 5 hits shy of 3000 career hits. And that will also put him in the small group with 500 HR's and 3000 hits. Last night he had a broken bat single and a HR. With two games left for him at home before a road trip, it would be nice if he could get his 3000th in front of his home crowd. He's coming out of a slump so hopefully he'll get hot to get the 5, but....not at the expense of a Sox loss.

Yanks won too last night, still 3 1/2 back of Sox who still have 1st. Now this is what it's about, Yanks, Sox dueling for the AL East after the break and down to the wire.

To change the subject for a moment, I just read today, there will be no baseball at the 2012 Olympics in London. I do understand the reason behind eliminating the game but this was really the only chance to see some good players from other countries. I'm thinking Cuba, Australia, and Japan to quickly name a few. I'm sure I'm the only one who cares, but it's a blow. BTW, softball is gone too.

Sox got spanked in Baltimore yesterday. Lost 9 - 1. Bruce Chen pitched a nice game for the O's, mixing it up all afternoon. Miller took the loss for the Sox. Damon is still on fire and here's hoping that continues even after the break.

Palmeiro, 2 hits yesterday including a HR, got to 2997 career hits. Truely, I'm hoping he gets the last 3 today in front of his home crowd. I just saw there are only 4 people with 500 HR's and 3000 hits. I thought there were 8 or 9. Small group. Palmeiro also had 6 RBI yesterday.

With Roy Halladay breaking his leg, Matt Clement will go to the All Star game. I think that's his first appearance there.

Yanks watch, lost to Cleveland 8 - 7 :D 3 1/2 back of Sox in first, 3 behind Baltimore at 2nd.

for getting his 3000th hit. I'm a little late here but I want to recognize the achievement.

Only 4 people have 400 HR's and 3000 hits, Aaron, Mays, and Murray. Now Palmeiro. He got it Friday off of Joel Pineiro.

The Sox are slugging it out with the Yanks who are in this weekend. Sox got whipped Thursday, Yanks got slapped around Friday, Sox beat up Sat, so hopefully we can take todays game and break even. A true Sox fan, in reality, hopes for a split series anytime they meet. Besting them or better, a sweep, is gravy. Yanks starters, well besides Mussina and JD's Unich, are hurt. I think the plan is to start Al Leiter today. Sox should handle him with no problem.

Sox in first, Baltimore in 2nd down 1, Yanks behind them down 1 1/2. Don't get any tighter than that. I can't remember when the last time the Sox had first coming out of the break over the Yankees. Life is good now.

Whoa, this didn't go as planned. Al Leiter pitched a super game for the Yanks. Who saw that coming? Season high on SO's. Safe to say he's planted firmly in the rotation and rightly so after Sunday.

Pretty much the only high light for the Sox was Mannys blast out onto Landsdown St. and the mini rally in the 9th.

So that put the Yanks 1/2 game out of 1st, actually a tie, they have the same number of losses with the Sox having played one more game. You people who read this, remember I told moon not to give it up early on. Dos Bronx Bums climbed right back in.

Sorry fellow Sox people, work has kept me from watching much of the remaining games, 3:00am comes early so 3 innings is about it until bed time.

With the series with NY in NY this weekend, it's a good time to pick up where we left off. Looking for the out right possesion of the AL east pennant and with last nights win and the series split so far, we're 4 games ahead of the Yanks. Todays game is so important.

Yesterday was encouraging for the Nation as Shilling looked pretty good. I don't feel right yet but he's a big gamer, keeping the faith here. The bats worked yesterday and Manny hit his 1st dinger in it seems like years. Good signs all around.

Right now, Chicago and the Angels (if healthy) are the teams to watch out for. Gonna be a tough play off this year. I don't count the Yanks out either. They make up ground faster than any team I've ever seen.

Other stuff: I'm sorry for Palmero. I wouldn't have guessed that at all. Too bad. But I believe all the struggling mega stars are coming down off enhancers so next year will be interesting. Maybe we'll be back to pure baseball.

Talk more tonight after this afternoons gaames.

Sox lost today, 1-0 at NY. I think that puts the Yanks down 3 1/2. Both Wake and Randy threw a good game. Wakefield got his career high 12 so's but did give up 1 hr to Giambi and that's all they needed to take the win. Sox bats VERY quiet today, didn't get a man on third until the 9th but couldn't do anything with it. Rivera came in with 4 remaining outs, was throwing 93-95, a wee bit of control issues going there but s/o J.O. for the last out. Tough break considering the way he's swinging the bat now.

Off to Toronto next.

OK, I'm back for a bit. Can't keep up with this or knives because of the job situation. Laid off again so between working hellish hours until I'm out for good and scrambling to locate a decent job, it don't leave much time for the Sox and baseball period.

Not too many games left and the Yanks and Sox come down to the wire again. Sox slipped into co-ownership of first again with the Yanks. The goal here is the AL East pennant outright, no wildcard BS. I told you early on when Yank fans who came in here and pissed and moaned about the crappy start Da Bums had not to count them out. Some exciting stuff going on in NY now. Giambi got my vote for come back player of the year. So I don't feel warm and fuzzy yet, but like I said, we want the East title outright. Anyway, the way Cleveland is playing, they're 1 1/2 over the Sox and Yanks in the WC race, sooo........

For some who just found this thread, we in Boston don't hate the Yankees as in "hate". I speak for a lot of RSN folks who love to see them play. The team that they put on the field the last 10 yrs is as good as the Yanks teams of the late 30's and I think we're lucky to have seen them assembled in our lifetime. We do hate Papa George and his bottomless pockets and the rivalry is our birthright. There's no place more fun to be than Fenway or the Stadium during a Sox/Yanks series. The exciment equals being a kid on Christmas morning. I think fans in NY feel the same. When in NY for a series, when I wear full Sox regalia, I get abused verbally, and expect to. If it hurts my feelings, well, I won't go to enemy territory in the Nation Colors. Same for NY fans coming to Boston. Bottom line, it's fun, all good, and something to talk about in winter.

To touch on Palmero for a minute, I'm stunned to say the least. What a mess. And to blame a team mate, bad news. He's done. Even as old as I am I have heroes of the game. This guy has been one and someone I'd want my child to look up to but what can you say. What a sad ending to a great career.

I'd like to see some more Sox fans in here making some noise, wantonson, copilot, where are you? Anyone for that matter, any Yankee fans? You don't have to talk Sox here....it's all good if it's baseball and in fun.

Zimmerman played and coached in NY for the majority of his career, he should know from that experience to never bum rush a Dominican ;) It's nice to know he ended any sort of respect people felt for him on that day! As far as Manny goes, well at least he's not shooting pig hormones into his body like Mr. Giambi has. Either way, we embarrased the crap out of the Yankees last season with the greatest victory in US sports history, and, (Odin willing) we will do it again this year.

No need to count rings and pennants, just how bad we whipped your ass last year, I mean really...you must be ashamed :D . Yankee fans are all mouth, you got whipped last year so bad and you still can't shut up! Sour grapes if you ask me (but then again, most Yankee fans suffer from a lack of proper manners). What the Sox did to the Yankees last year is like what happened to us in 86' but like a million times worse, yet you still have this air of "we win all the time". Well ya don't. Not last year and hopefully not this year either.

A first grade teacher explains to her class that she is a Boston Red Sox fan. She asks her students to raise their hands if they were Red Sox fans, too. Not really knowing what a Red Sox fan was, but wanting to be like their teacher, hands explode into the air. There is, however, one exception. A girl named Lucy has not gone along with the crowd. The teacher asks her why she has decided to be different. "Because I'm not a Red Sox fan." "Then," asks the teacher, "what are you?" "Why I'm proud to be a Yankees fan.", boasts the little girl. The teacher is a little perturbed now, her face slightly red. She asks Lucy why she is a Yankees fan. "Well, My Dad and Mom are Yankees fans, and I'm a Yankees fan, too!" The teacher is now angry. "That's no reason," she says loudly. "What if your mom was a moron, and your dad was a moron, what would you be then?" A pause, and a smile. "Then," says Lucy, "I'd be a Red Sox fan."

Boston has appeared in only five World Series since 1918, losing four of them in seven games. In 1946, they tied game seven in the top of the eighth against the Cardinals, but gave up the winning run in the bottom of the inning. Boston had a 3-0 lead in game seven of the 1975 Series, but ended up losing by one run to the Reds. They were one strike away from winning the 1986 Series four times in game six. The Red Sox then had a 3-0 lead going into the sixth inning of game seven, but gave up eight runs in the final three innings to lose the game. The Sox carried a three-run lead into the bottom of the eighth of game seven of the 2003 ALCS. They allowed New York to score three runs to tie the game. Then, the Yankees won on Aaron Boone's home run in the eleventh inning. The Red Sox lost by five runs to Cleveland in the 1948 American League tiebreaker. Thirty years later, Boston had a 2-0 lead until New York's Bucky Dent hit his infamous home run over the Fenway scoreboard in the seventh inning of the AL East tiebreaker. In 1949, they needed to win one of their two final games to win the American League (both against New York). They blew a 4-0 lead in the first game, and lost the second by a score of 5-3. Many consider Boston's performance after the departure of Babe Ruth to be attributable to "The Curse of the Bambino."

Got to get serious here, a game behind the Yankees, whoa. This final series in Boston for all the marbles in the Eastern division is what it's all about. Two super teams slugging it out, I got 911 set on speed dial in case. Pretty much evenly matched slugging and fielding, some differences here and there but will all come down to pitching and the bullpen.

Get ready BlackNinja, going to be a good series.

Well...I won't get warm and fuzzy until it's over. I remember too well Bucky "F***ing" Dent and Aaron "F***ing who?" Boone all too well. Wasn't too impressed with either starting pitcher last night. That kid Weng (sp) is coming off the DL with an knee injury right? Left in too long. And Wells, a little sloppy first 3 - 4 innings until he found his locations, if he doesn't calm down when a call don't go his way, I'm gonna bust a gut. I'm suprised the hits were not coming last night, good night at Fenway for the long ball. With Weng featuring a sinker I guess most hits off him will be on the ground anyway.

Wontonson, you got Auggie strapped into his seat? I could hear you guys yelling here in Boston. I'm a bit hoarse myself today. I'll miss the last game Sunday, have to go to a wedding in Vermont. The groom is a big sox fan so maybe they'll have a TV on somewhere.

Yeah, thanks, good luck to you also.

Hey remember Luis Sojo, I think he's your 3rd base coach now. Damn guy would sleep on the bench all year, come postseason, Joe would wake him up, he'd borrow a glove and bat, and clean our damn clocks. I'm glad he retired, in work we had a Luis doll and we'd twist his leg hoping for a sprained ankle, nothing major, but you know, enough to keep him out of the line up that night.

Isn't it the truth though, and no one can really understand it except for Yank/Sox fans, but this is what it's about! What do they say on that TV ad....I live for this.

Ain't it the truth! And YES you are 100% correct about Sojo. Do nothing all year round, and come P/S he was clutch. I have NO idea how that fat a** did it, but somehow he did. You know who else, Scott Brocious. He was a great 3rd baseman, but only got a hit when he HAD to.
Speaking of Sojo, he is now reffered to as "send em home Sojo" because he waves Yanks to home plate no matter what. I've seen him send guys home when the catcher is 3 feet from the ball, and the runner is 10 feet away. Unfortunately I'm not kidding.

Rob, you're only 3 hrs away from the shrine! I thought Mahopac was upstate near Albany for some reason. Hey Buddy, the only thing that was keeping us from our usual 5-6 Fenway weekends this season was Auggie being too young to keep strapped into a car seat for the ride. You can bet we will be seeing you alot next season, and we look foward to it very much! Hopefully Auggie will fit into the Sox cap you bought him by then! I can't wait to thank you in person. Yes Mahopac is only 10 miles from Danbury CT. and allows Karen to commute into NYC for work (about 50 miles by train). It's a nice semi rural area with plenty of Sox fans around for support. Funny thing though, my best friend Nick moved from Brooklyn like us, but to Trumball CT. He's a Yankmee fan and boy does he get the attitude from his neighbors and other locals :D He complained to me about it and I told him "no sympathy, now you know all the crap I've taken for my entire life" :D . Any way, continue with the noise and good vibes, lets wipe that smile off Arods face today in anticipation of us spankin the s@%t out of those bums in the post season. Cheers John and GO SOX

OK, I'm back from the wedding in Vermont. Missed the last game of the Yanks series. Someone came up to me and said it was in the 9th and it was 10-1, Sox. Everyone is doing the high 5 crap but hey, after all, it's the Yankees. I've seen their comeback act before so no celebrating until the final out. So, we snuck in the back door....again. If I remember right, didn't the wildcard team win the WS last year? :D

Off to Chicago for Tuesdays game. That will be a good show too. No dogs in this years playoff, all top quality teams.

I see we had some excitment while I was gone. Glad to see everyone playing nice. Sox and Yankee fans...gotta love 'em. JD, this is something you'll never know...no one can get passonate over the KC Royals..lol...but even I enjoy watching your Big Unich pitch so again we agree on something. :)

What a season huh? Sox in 1st for the longest time and the Yanks make the comeback of the season. And take the East in the final series. Nothing would be better than to take the ALCS away from them again but no matter which way it goes, some good baseball was seen and enjoyed by those who live for it this year.

Don't want to forget Jason Giambi, who although a Yankee, made the comeback of a liftime. Cleaned himself up and went on a tear. He proved if you have the talent you don't need steroids. And yes, I voted for him as AL comeback player of the year.

Let's get ready for post season!

First game of the Boston/Chicago series, I had to shut it off after 6 2/3 innings. Ouch, Sox getting spanked with their pants down around their ankles. 12-2 White Sox. Only Sox highlight here was Jemery Gonzalez's pick off move to 2nd, no luck there but a great move just the same.

Also, saw Joey Cora, 3rd base coach for the Chi Sox. Some may remember he played 2nd base for Seattle. On opening day, 1997 I believe, I was at Fenway watching Pedro pitch a 2 hitter. Guess who had the 2 hits on the day for Seattle....yeah, it was Cora. Top of the 9th, last 3 batters Pedro faced were ARod, Griffy Jr., and little Joey Cora. I could be wrong but ARod flied out, Griffy infield pop up, and Cora down swinging.

Hopefully, when I wake up tomorrow, Sox had a mega rally to win.

Maybe if you guys could get Carl Yasztremski and Carlton Fisk out of retirement maybe you all will have a chance :D Probably going to need Louie Tiant too  :spyder:

JD, Pete Rose is looking for you. Wants to know if you want to put down on the series. :D Come out of that cave lad, we're 5 years into the new millineum. There's more to life than hawkbills and memories of The Big Red Machine.

It is fun! When we get Rob, myself, and Ninja, our resident Yankee fan, yelling over ourselves.....watch out and hang on. Season with a little JD Spydo. It's safe to say we're passionate followers of our respective teams.

It's all good.

Rock, have you noticed how many more White Sox jerseys and hats you see when in the city? It's pretty crazy, I live on the North side, and it seems like ever drunken 20-something male was wearing Cubbies stuff a year ago, now, looky looky, the White Sox are the preferred apparel for being a drunk 20-something male while bar hopping on a weekend! :D :p

Not that they're all bad, I think it's just funny, the Fairweather Fan Phenomenon.

I did notice that.. I was up at North Beach last weekend and everyone and their mothers were wearing a White Sox hat or jersey.

Good stuff! :)

We got our work cut out for us for sure Rock. The White Sox are no bums and rightly earned their spot in the playoffs. If they happen to make it further along, and I said happen to, I back them to go all the way. Ozzie did some super things with that team and they're playing like champions, no doubt. I'm still hoping for a mega turn around.

JD got his wish last night, was that Bill Buckner playing 2nd? Holy crap, I had flashbacks and night sweats last night.

It ain't over till it's over.

Congrats Rock and ChiSox. No argument from me there, Chicago came to play no doubt.

Now it's your turn buddy....1917 1917 1917 1917. Hope Chicago goes all the way, no reason why they can't.

I'm disappointed for sure. Sox went down without a fight or a last gasp. What did they think, they were going to win by immaculate conception. The leauge leading offence was shut down big time. The only highlight wasn't a Sox moment but a White Sox one. El Duke coming in with the bases loaded, no outs, and cruising through the log jam.

Over and out!

Tis the night of the BIG UNIT  Like an eagle preparing his talons for descention upon his prey. The BIG UNIT is smelling blood the same way he did in the 2001 World Series when he put the Bronx bummers in their place.

Something's wrong here though  Now he's playing for the Bronx Bummers :D Well I guess big George just thought>> I can't beat him :( might as well join him  While the BIG UNIT made his bank account a Big Unit as well.

I'm happy to report JD's Unit got hammered last night, gave up 5 in 3+ innings. Didn't have his game face on.

Actually, I just hate the man because Uncle George had more cash in his pocket, not Randy's fault I guess.

Final 11-7 Angels. Yanks will make this series go 5 and I expect them to win it. ALCS matchup, Chicago and New York, will be a great series with Chicago plowing through the Yanks cause they're very hungry and have that can't loose attitude. 1917 1917 1917

Chicago will go nuts when they win the playoffs and tear their city down when they win the WS.

I have made temporary adjustments to my avitar and sig until the playoffs are over. My support lies with the Chicago White Sox, a super scrappy team who deserves everything they got this year. They play a great game of baseball and use every tool in the game. ChiSox can hit, run, pitch, sacrifice, bunt, steal and right now are playing pure baseball the way it was intended, except of course for that cursed DH in the AL.

All the way Sox!

Hey Rob, well a bummer huh? I hope Auggie's attention span isn't fully developed, he can put this one behind him. I still got up this morning and put both feet on the ground so all is not lost. :)

I'm wondering what the changes will be for next year. Will Damon still be here? Will Olerude retire as suggested in the paper? Will Shilling be back to normal for a couple more seasons? I feel he screwed himself up last year pitching with that bad foot. Talk about taking one for the team.

My best to Karen, Auggie and yourself. Talk to you later.

Game 4 of Yanks/Angels series cancelled yesterday for rain. Doesn't look any better for today if it's raining in NY like it is here this morning. With the Yanks this rested, it'll be hard going for LA. Strating rotations will be changed no doubt.

I want to see the Yanks eliminated but on the other hand, I'd like to see a show down between Chicago and New York. The ALCS championship would be so much sweeter if the Sox (White) could blow through the Yanks. Have history made twice back to back by having the series starved ChiSox take it this year and going through the Yanks to do. :D

A little premature but...Lets go White sox! Good luck to Ozzie and Co., whoever they play.

Yanks forced a fifth game of the ALCS yesterday, beating the Angels 3-2. Maybe we'll have a Chicago/New York showdown after all.

Super game over in the NL, Houston beating Atlanta in 18 innings, 7-6. Clemens was the only one left in the bullpen and came on in the 16th and recorded the win. No position players left on either bench. Great fun over there, 6 1/2 hr game. Houston goes on in that series with the win.

Yeah Buddy, it was a tough one, I had a real bad feeling at the start of this, but didn't give up hope. Auggie watched all the games with us, and yes thank Odin he is still too young to make the connection on why Pop is so upset. Even Fenway, my Boston Terrier is a little down in the dumps, but she is a trooper and the most positive of the bunch. As for next year, don't know, I woulkd like to see Damon back as he and Trot are my favorites on the current team, yes I think Shilling might be used up, but hell man what a year last year! I hope to see the White Sox in the WS, I think they have the stuff this year and whoever wins tonight is gonna be awfull tired for the division series. Those few extra days rest will be a factor in my book.
So on I go to my other sports passion, English premier league Football. Manchester City forever!!!! Talk to you soon and Cheers!! best to you and yours!

Your lucky, I have nothing until the boys head to spring camp in what....15 weeks. Really can't wait to see who they pick up and who they dump. I'm afraid Damon won't be here, as a free agent and one of the best lead off guys playing right now, everyone will jump all over him. You never know, The Holy Trinity have been spending the money as of late so they might make a serious offer. When Manny's time is up they'll cut those strings and free up some payroll. Manny says he's retiring after his contract is up, we'll see. Last year they nailed Wakefield and Tek to long term deals. I'm sure they'll make a move on Mueller when his time comes, a very underated 3rd baseman. If you watch regular you know what I mean. Trot, no sweat. He'd even take a home town discount to stay I think. We're going to need some starting pitcher help, can't go into next season with Wells as the ace. I'd like the owners to make a move on a good one, two combination. Don't know who will be available though for next year. Schilling might come around but what wasn't good was Clement getting hit off the mound again last week. After the head shot, now this, he's flinching after his release. Not good. Yeah, I think some interesting moves coming up.
