I absolutely love my Spyderco Yojimbos and Ronin, I have just ordered a Sharpmaker set, and I am contemplating adding another knife to the order...

So my question is:

What is wrong with the Lil' Temperance that they are discontinuing it?

I like the materials that it is made from S30V - G10 - Compression lock it is a lot like the Yojimbo in that regard.....

What do you guys think? Should I add a Lil' temperance to the order?

Thanks,
Cameron

I love the lil tank...
my only problem is it eating the pocket in my jeans.

I'd say put one on your order, you won't regret it.

I finally have to touch up my edge again after 2 months... think the mediums will do it.

Add one to the order quick! I don't carry mine every day, but whenever I need a truly heavy duty knife, the Lil' Temperance (leaf-blade) is the one.

I think the Lil' Temp had the misfortune to be introduced about the same time as the Gunting. The Gunting was featured by Bram Frank in MBC training and seemed to become the first choice of a lot of people for a heavy-duty self-defense tool.

For me, the lil' Temp was a better choice (and no flames from the Gunting fans ;) ) because it was less obviously a self-defense tool and had much more of a utility folder appearance - something which would be easier for me to explain carrying here in Canada.

I will echo what 4 ster just said about the Lil' Temperance. Also I would never consider using the Bram Frank Gunting for a work knife. Whereas the Lil' Temperance to me has a much more greater versatility and with 2 different blades to choose from you can cover all bases. You could even use the "trailing point" version to skin animals and I am sure that it has been done. I am a little sorry that they are going to re-introduce it in a less expensive version. The original is simply a hall of Fame candidate and deserves to stand alone. :spyder:

Nothing at all is wrong with this knife.

Knives are generally discontinued by Spyderco due to lack of sales rather than due to any sort of problem with the function of the knife itself. It is all about the bottom line: sales. Knives that do not sell well are discontinued to make room for newer models.

Please bear in mind that I am in no way a spokesperson for Spyderco; this is only my understanding.

This is not, at least in my mind, a poor reflection on the discontinued knives themselves; just because something is not commercially viable does not necessarily negate its utility or value.

Based on opinions I have seen here on the forums, I would recommend obtaining a Lil' Temperance if you believe you would like it; by all appearances it has much to recommend it.

Furthermore, even if the handle is design for right handed people, I -as a lefty- like it plenty. I found the left-handed grip of the li'l temp to be just as secure and comfortable as the rigt-handed grip.

Get one quick, it is bound to become a collector's item because of its unique design and limited production! It's a great user too! :D IMO it's the perfect 3-inch fighting-utility folder. If you are looking for a folder that can do anything well (with a 3 inch blade), this is the one.

If I Had To Only Have One Edc Knife This Would Be The One. The Lil Temp Is For Me The Best Folder Ever Made Bar None. I Own Four Of Them As A Could Not Imagine Life Without One, And I May Buy Another As I Hear The Lil Temp 2 Will Be Different. The Leaf Point Se Is My Favorite, What A Perfect Edc. Oh Yes I Love That Green Handle! This Knife Is Easily One Of The Best Knives Ever Made!

Everyone in this thread is right on the money. I agree with VW that the only thing "wrong" with the Lil T is that its clip does eat pockets if you use it a lot. Other than that, it is perfect.

Think of it in terms of a great TV show that was cancelled because it was ahead of its time and a little unconventional and there just weren't enough people out there who "got it".

Also, remember that there are a lot of unreasonable people out there who want knives on par with the Lil T to cost $40. That's just not gonna happen. You get what you pay for, and the Lil T is worth every penny, IMHO.

Worker #9 are you as bad as I am about the Dyads. I have 6 big ones and 8 little ones. We must kin as I have said before. Albeit the Lil' Temperance is probably a winner to hoard up on. Just like Mr. Blonde said: because of it's limited production it's bound to be a "hall of famer" for sure :D :spyder:

Say Worker# 9 I sent you a PM

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Lil'T. Spyderco constantly discontinues some models in order to make room for the new ones. I am sure that you'll be more than satisfied of your Lil'T.

Cameron:

I think the only problem with the Lil Temp was the high cost of manufacture, due to all the machining necessary on the G-10 handle. This probably set the price at a point where sales were slow. However, I have never seen a folder with the same capabilities as this knife. It is a powerful combination of short, thick blade and enough handle to allow almost unlimited force to be applied. Alot of fixed-blades aren't even in the same ballpark as the Lil Temp.

Supposedly there is an updated version in the works with a handle that costs less to produce. I hope they keep the same blade length (& 4mm thickness)/handle ratio on the next one.
