HAS THERE BEEN ANY THOUGHT OF A STAINLESS HANDLED SPYDERCO BASED ON THE POLICE MODEL ONLY ABOUT AN INCH SHORTER? THE ROOKIE WENT TOO FAR IN THE DOWNSIZING AND A KNIFE IN ABOUT THE 4 1/4 IN. SIZE SEEMS TO BE ABOUT IDEAL FOR ME FOR EVERYDAY USE.

Have you looked at the Stainless Endura ? 3 3/4" blade, and it's a nice package. Personally, I prefer this blade shape over the Police.

I too have a SS Endura II and find it an excellent knife - big enough for anything I need to do, very strudy.

Folks,

How does the AUS-6 steel of your Endura II's perform? I have thought about one of these for awhile, as I'm having trouble locating the S/S Police model that I want.

Hi Jeff,

I have had no problems with the blade on my SS Endura II (it's serrrated). It probably gets the harshest treatment of any of my Spyderco's (camping, in the garden, around the house etc) and the edge seems to holding up ok.

My only gripe with it is that the clip is mounted about 1/2" from the end of the scales (as is the Police) so it doesn't sit as low as the Delica.

Glad to hear that you like the blade steel used on your Endura II. I should have expected this, as it seems that Spyderco doesn't use any bad steel; regardless of model.

I may end up with one these for my compact "folding saw" I want to have around. I had already decided that the "high ride" aspect wasn't a problem for me as I was considering the Police model.

Thanks for your response. Jeff/1911.

The "steel snobs" all raise, then pinch their noses at mention of AUS6. I really like its stainless qualities. Am not a particularly heavy user of knives normally, so can't really comment on the edge-holding ability of AUS6. Many say that it takes a very good edge, but doesn't hold it very well. It doesn't have a whole bunch of carbon in it, compared to many more highly touted steels.

Have read that CRKT is seriously concerned about all the badmouthing of AUS6 and is looking for another "basic" steel to use for its lower priced models. Fact is that a lot of BF forumites who acknowledge the basic build quality of CRKT still won't buy most of their models because of the AUS6.
