I was going through my finite collection of Spyders this morning and noticed that 2 of my favorites are "Left Handed" versions. I have a Left Handed Carbon Fiber Police and a Left handed ATS-55 Mariner. I have seen other Left Handed Spyders in the past but can't recall all of them. Can anyone give me a rundown of the Spyders that were offered in the Left handed version. For instance I would like to know if there ever was a Left handed Dyad? But just how many South Paw Spyders were there? JD :spyder: 'O

JD, I know there are LH versions of the CF Delica and Civilian. Like the LH CF Police these come in both PE and SE. I believe all of the early Spyderco models - say anything with a single digit model number, were available at one time or another in LH all stainless versions. I have a LH Hunter and Mariner, and have seen Workers, Standards, Police, Harpies, and CoPilots. Only one I can't flat out vouch for is the Executive, but I strongly suspect it was also made in a LH version. I do recall seeing at least a couple auctions for LH versions of at least one of the "Bob T" collabs, can't recall whether it was the full size or "junior" version, but would guess the full size. Beyond that, am not sure. There may have been a few others. Far as the Dyad, if I had a "well used" full size one, I'd be tempted to see if it could be disassembled and put back together with the blades on the opposite sides of the fence.

Hi JD
I have bothe LH CF police models, and a S/Steel one that I scored cheap off Ebay. Thats the one that was sent to Spyderco for a refurbishment. BTW the is a SE LH Police on Ebay now, pretty high start price though.

Yeah Phil I saw that one also and saw that it was a lefty. If the guy had started the bidding at $75 the knife would probably be close to his starting price now. Some of these ebayers never cease to amaze me  . I just started this thread because I had never heard anyone expound on the left/right issue before. I have to believe that the left handed CF Police will be a nice collector's item down the road because they supposedly only made about 200 of them in SE and 200 in PE from what I was told. I guess there are a lot of knives that it just doesn't make any difference. I would imagine that most of your PEs and hollow ground blades could be used sufficiently either way. But collecting wise: That may be another story. JD :spyder: 'O

I was playing around tonight with my Spyderco Massad Ayoob blade while I was sharpening and doing some spring cleaning on some of my very treasured Spyders. While attempting this thread about left handed Spyders It hit me. Yes I am now wondering: DID THEY EVER MAKE THE Massad Ayoob IN A LEFT HANDED VERSION????? Somebody out there in Spyderville has the answer and I would appreciate knowing. JD :spyder: 'O

Well, I stick mostly to PE and front locks, so never gave it too much consideration, as long as the clip was at least removable. Do wish Sal would consider doing LH versions of the Military and Cricket. And you've nailed another part of the "problem" on the head. The early LH knives were made in very small quantities compared with the RH ones. This means we leftys have to outbid RH collectors who are only interested in them as collector's items, and deal with the "guilt" of actually putting a "collectable" knife to use. Similar story on the CF models due, once again, due to the small quantities made.

One interesting observation though, couple months back I decided to cut two loaves of french bread into thin slices. Figured it would be a good time to test a couple serrated blades, so I tried a LH SE Mariner and an older Rescue in RH SE. Truth is, I got better results cutting left handed with the RH serrated, and right handed with the LH one, than when I used them "properly".

Did they make the Massad Ayoob in a left handed version? As short of a tenure as the Spyderhawk had I also wonder if they made it in a Left Handed version as well. WELL DID THEY?????? :) :spyder:
