Well I am one of these perfectionist type guys who likes everything to my liking down to the fine details. Which is "part & parcel" what made me a Spyder-head to begin with. I saw immediately that they go the "extra mile". Last night I was at a buddy's house ( fellow collector) and we were doing some close examinations to some of my all time favs. When I got out the JD Smith my friend Chuck said something that hit me like Holyfield's left hook. He ( knowing that I love combo edges) said: Did they make the JD Smith in a combo edge? No! I replied because I have seen about 300 or more of them and never saw a CE in that model. Then he said: Why can't you send it back to the factory and have them make a combo edge out of it? I sat there and thought; Wow what a wonderful idea. Which made me think?? Does the Great Spyder Factory do ALTERATIONS/modifications? Does anyone know? :spyder:

Quick answer would be that I doubt very much they'd undertake something like that. But I've been "surprised" too many times lately to speculate beyond that. On the other hand, if you're dead set on owning a CE Smith, the easiest route might be to find someone willing to turn a fully serrated one into a combo for you.

Deacon I could do that myself. I have one of those TORMEK units. You can see them on www.sharptoolsusa.com. It is a low speed grinder which operates with the stone being constantly dipped in water. I use it to grind in relief to blades that have really gotten beat up. It even makes them look factory new. I can't imagine why the Spyder Factory wouldn't do that being that they do sharpen knives for people. Oh Well? I can't have everything my way I guess but it honestly would maybe create a job for someone and give us many more options. ;) :spyder:

If they don't do it for any reason, try to find a custom knifemaker who also offers his knives with SE. Here in Europe I know of at least two who make/made modifications like that to factory knives.

It also shouldn't be a big deal regarding the price ;)
