I just received a new blue Spydie Salsa today. I want to pass along some first impressions and I'll do an update thread after I get to use it some.

First off I LOVE the old style compression lock release! The new style really sucks since it is too difficult to release with such a small release tab! I suspect that I will love the Cobra Hood not because it makes it easier to open but because it gives me someplace to press with my thumb as I cut. I will have to see how that works out after some use. The fit and finish on my Salsa is FIRST rate. I couldn't find any defects with it and I looked closely since I was curious how a Taiwanese Spyderco matched up to one on my Seki Japan Spydercos. The verdict is that they stack up very nicely. The handle is a lighter shade than in pictures and it doesn't have a Salsa
pepper on the side of the handle. The edge wasn't quite as sharp as other Spydercos that I have bought but it wasn't dull either. I also love the thickness of the handle. Too many knives are going to a thin handle that might be great in the pocket but when you go to use the knife it cuts into the hand.

My initial opinion is that the Salsa is a well made little big knife and I can't wait to start using it.
