I was looking into acquiring a Sharpmaker 204. Can this unit make my knife the sharpest it can be. I want to know this because I like the knives sharp and if it could be sharper, I would like to learn the way to make it sharper. So would a Sharpmaker compare to sharpening with a Hone or other systems?

Well Beaver I can only say great things about the 204 Sharpmaker. One thing to keep in mind is to go ahead and get the Diamond stones and the Ultra fines stones that you can buy extra with the kit. You will not be sorry. The only gripe I have with the 204 Sharpmaker is that they have not yet come up with an extra coarse stone to go with the kit for very rapid stock removal. Dive in and get one then let me know what you think. DO!! I mean Please Do!! Watch the video and read the booklet before you start on it. It will save you a ton of mistakes. :) :spyder:

Thanks I just ordered it. Dahm troll that is bad. Hope they arent real expenisve to replace.
How much of a difference is there from the Fine to Ultra fine. I know the kit comes with the brown and the white. Also the Diamond is very expensive. I will have to hold off on those for a few weeks.
I sharpen knives as part of my job. For finishing off and touching up nothing beats the Sharpmaker in my view. Like all sharpening systems patience is a virtue and practice a necessity. Study the video carefully and read the booklet.
[QUOTE=Troll]Hey welcome. Nobody likes me here. Want to be friend.
Troll-
That's not really true....You make me laugh. I'll be your friend! Now with that said everyone else will hate me now! I read what you have to say so I don't have you on that "ignore function".
Take care buddy,

I like the sharpener also, works great not only on knives but hatchets, axes, scissors, fishhooks and a host of other things......I broke my coarse stone this week... dropped it on tile floor...looks much worse than troll's mishap...so I feel your pain brother....I will order another this week...Doc
